One of the geminis 36264 has had accident in leeds (12.45) and ran over a cyclist by city square outside queens hotel. Hope the cyclist and driver are ok. Saw this bus in service at 9PM on Service 6 at Holt Park so assume it got sorted out. Picture here of the collision. www.flickr.com/photos/cliffordstead/8056715590/Prob just been running around with a few scratches and black rubber marks from the wheel. Again hope both driver and rider were ok.

So is Leeds the new London? Inroads of new buses with older ones cascaded to the plebs elsewhere? Perhaps First could investigate reinstating "utility" bodies for the likes of us hoiks in Bradford and Halifax. The new 98 Geminis ought to have been shared out more fairly. Why didn't the Olympic Geminis go straight to Sheffield and stop the shenanigans? It rather looks that way, one gets the impression Halifax is being run down for sale and Bradford has become the forgotten city.

Excuse my ignorance here as I'm not from WY (but am there on business very soon!) - are these new Geminis regulars on routes 1/6? And what is the general allocation of these routes? Thanks very much.

Yes, you'll find them on 1 & 6 along with older B7/9TLs on most of the Headingley corridor routes. Also on 2/3/12/13/33/42/51.. oh it would have been easier to just say most Hunslet Park decker operated routes.

Headingley is now awash with Gemini 2`s, even on routes 97 and the odd appearance on the X84.

I expect things will settle down if and when they route brand them, unlike now when they are being used interchangably with older Geminis on all Hunslet Park double deck routes.

Fact is, Leeds makes more money for First and will therefore see more investment than other areas.

Is it a fact though? Bradford has lower car ownership than Leeds which might suggest buses are used more. There'll be busy core routes in both Leeds and Bradford that are real money spinners. It seems the Leeds star is in the ascendancy though. Look forward to their cast offs in a few years.

I don't think we can complain too much about lack of investment in Bradford considering we did get 40 new buses in 2009, a few in 2008 and 60+ in 2007 and other than the hybrids there has been nothing in between 2009 and 2012, in fact Bradford still have the last West Yorkshire Gemini 1 (37756) and last Urban (69485) to be delivered.
Just because all of the new Gemini 2's have been delivered to Hunslet Park it doesn't follow that they will all stay there for their lifetime. Considering the expected movement of routes around West Yorkshire's depots I would imagine we will see significant movements at the end of October and I doubt very much that First are planning to buy no more new vehicles over the next couple of years in which case Bradford and Bramley could expect new arrivals then.

Quite recently there was an announcement that Leeds would receive 200 new buses in the next two years, so there are 102 more in the pipeline soon.

As has been said Bradford has received large numbers of new buses, and is probably newer overall than Bramley. I hardly think they are the 'forgotten city'
I think in this case it seems strange how they've all just been dumped in Hunslet Park with no thought to what routes they will be running.
It's also strange how Leeds rebranded the 1/6, 2/3/12/13 only a few months ago with the new livery and new branding, only for this to be removed and replaced by new buses now. All they have done is lessen the impact of the new buses, as they are in the same new livery as the previous old buses.

They don't have to have dedicated routes, if it will fit round a route it can go on it.

I'm sure First know exactly what routes the new buses are for, it seems to me they have been rushed into service more to release the older buses for their new areas and would expect route branding to be reinstated once everything settles down a little.
I do agree however that it would have made more sense to start the latest branding with the new buses even if it had been agreed that the Gemini's to transfer to Sheffield would be in the new livery.

Nice pictures 213.
Is it just me, or do the Geminis transfered up from London have a slightly differently livery on the back of the buses to that applied to the original re-painted Leeds examples?
On the London examples the dark colour rhombus areas look wider. Alternatively, this could be described as the two stripes that wrap round from each side to the back not wrapping around as far!

Seems the 5 Bradford allocated 59 plate Geminis are being moved to Bramley

I've been in Sheffield all this week and loads of ex-west Yorkshire buses, particularly the ALX400's (the old 57-- fleet series and 06 plate Geminis) have been pressed into service on the Ecclesall Road corridor services and the 51 service. I've not seen a single step-entrance bus operated by First S Yorks all week! The ex-London 32000 fleetnumbered ALX400 has been running on the same 82 board pretty much all week. It also seems as though they haven't bothered to change the advertisments on the inside of the buses which advertise many things from W Yorks!

Adverts etc are dealt with by CBS outdoor, internal stuff by one man who covers the whole of South Yorkshire so it will take some time to be removed. 37021-3703 are for the 51s as are 37103-37122 for the 47/48s which directly replace Dennis Trident/Presidents which have been found wanting in performance and reliability.
