Looks a bit like the original Northern Rail livery.
It looks horrible, they'd be best just sticking with barbie and putting on a local fleetname!

Would be nice to see the livery in natural daylight, rather than the back of the depot. but we'll have to wait for the buses to emerge out in their new colours.

Thanks for posting that, You were quick off the mark there, I thought it would be next week or later when we got our first glimpse of the new livery. (Notwithstanding the Leeds Gemini, of course). As usual, We'll all like it at first, And see it as an improvement on Barbie, but as time goes by, We'll find something to dislike it for.

I'll be honest, I love it! I wouldn't say I hate the Barbie, however. It is about time they changed their livery though, they've had the currentone for about 10 years or so and they could do wit rolling out a new look.

I don't like how the local fleetnames have been applied otherwise it is an improvement on Barbie

These 2 are both South Yorkshire vehicles-the ALX400 is 31129 and the Eclipse is 60743,. but both have fleetnumber 37688?

Still too much white to get dirty! The local fleet names look like they're from the 1990's

The best thing about the livery is the use of the location name, although being entirely in large capitals does look a bit loud.

I'm lost as to what they're trying to achieve here. If the idea was to introduce a sense of local identity whilst retaining a common base livery for easy transfer, why not use different fonts with a small logo? Like 'SHEFFIELD' in extra bold with an anvil, or 'York' in caligraphy with cross swords.
Is the skyline used in the word 'LEEDS' actually of Leeds? I'm wondering if even that is generic.

Id love to know why every experimental livery so far has the fleet numbers 37688 lol. Even the gemini that has 37690's reg plate is in fact 37697! doesnt make sense.

I may be way off here but the colours used on the bus in Leeds show a likeness to the colours used on one of the Olympic mascots Mandeville. Maybe this is going to be the livery used on the new buses which will be first used for the Olympics and then cascaded to provincial fleets. It wouldn't take much then to just apply regional fleetnames on transfer. The livery could then be applied to the rest of the fleet as the new standard colours with regional fleetnames. If it is for the Olympics it would explain why the are taking so much time over it. You may well be onto something there actually as I was told by Andy in the paint shop that 37697 is off to London for a couple of days anytime now. Couldn't think why it would be going to London, never associated it with the Olympics! Co-incidence? Hmm... we'll see, Well looking at the pic that's been linked to on here it very well could be,as they have Leicester & Bristol place names even though there Sheffield based buses..

The local fleet names look like they're from the 1990's The entire livery looks like it's from the 90's certainly not the sharp, rounded, crisp and modern look that the; I hate to say it, barbie livery achieves! I have yet to see it in the flesh though so will reserve full judgement until then.

Stagecoach moved from sharp blocky colours to the current modern curvy look
Northern Rail moved from sharp blocky colours to the current modern curvy look
Yet First want to move in the opposite direction?

What's the latest news with this "new" livery? Do we know the outcome of the trial? Not heard anymore since we saw the sneak peak of the livery couple weeks back.

My understanding is that the livery as applied to 37697 but incorporating tweaks here and there will be launched nationwide in February 2012.

Thought we were having local liveries not a national livery.

Re-reading the original article, it's states that First are re-introducing local branding, not local liveries. My interpretation of this is that it'll be along the lines of Stagecoach & Arriva have done; one livery with something similar to 'Stagecoach in....' or 'Arriva serving....' as a fleetname.
