with the new depot in hunslet is this just to replace kirkstall only or are they thinking of closing bramley as the space at this new depot is huge and im sure they could accomodate both depots into one. does anyone know anything? the kirkstall site has planning permission for office/appartments.

It's a straight replacement for Kirkstall.

Atkinson St is due to open April 2008. Kirkstall will close but I don't think all Kirkstall operated routes will automatically transfer to the new site. As an example, it's been mentioned elsewhere that services 2/3/12/13 will move from Cherry Row to Atkinson Street and the 42 will move from Kirkstall to Cherry Row.
I also understand that the 51/51A is moving from Bramley to Atkinson Street and that Bramley aren't gaining any other work!
FTR could possibly be moving away from Bramley as the plan is to have all bendi, FTR & guideway routes operating from one site.
A number of new buses are due for the Scott Hall guideway routes & also the 37!
All remaining Leeds Dennis Darts are due for withdrawl at about the same time.
Of course, knowing First, all the above shouldn't be taken as gospel until it actually happens!

Could that mean any of the T---GUG and V---ESC Scanias going up North possibly as a result?

I suppose the T/V Scanias could be moving elsewhere but havn't heard anything in that respect. I do know that some of the Scania N113/Alexander Striders are earmarked for withdrawl so the redundant guideway buses could just be deployed elsewhere.
Forgot to mention also that service 96 is due some second hand low floor double decks if First can source some from elsewhere in the group.

London Tridents, I know Glasgow are getting some ALX400s. I suppose that would deploy some Alexander Olympians to Bramley for Schools which in turn vould get rid of the all built Leylands.

Wont these replace the Dennis Darts and the Scania 113 Strider's once there are withdrawn from service soon as planned? Well if it ever happens!
----
Anyway I heard in the garage at Bramley today as you do at that are taking on the 757 Airport route along with the Volvo Wright Eclipse buses we sent to Kirkstall a couple of years ago once it's closes in April. Also roumored is that one of The Headingley service's is coming Bramley's way's, Don't know which one yet. But there is plenty to choose from.
The FTR driver's know nothing about a move to Cherryrow yet. But it's confirmed that the 51/51's rotor is moving to Atkinson street in April along with the allocated Double deck Volvo Eclipse Gemini’s

The J-YRM Olympians could be going quite soon as 30709 has recently been repainted all white. All these are leased and not owned by First and the terms and conditions dictate that they are repainted into dealer white when returned.
Another is in the paint shops and they are receiving First fleet names etc on all white base which suggests they will be used for a short period of time.

I would imagine the 85/87/87A would move to Atkinson Street as did someone mention that they don't interwork with the 73 anymore at LCBS.
I suppose the newer Scanias won't move up North as pub146g suggests about new buses, the 18/18A won't benefit from these which will still require the Scanias.

No, the R/YOV R/WOE Olympians were bought direct from London for (I think) £59,995.00 each excluding tyres.

this depot is strange as it doesnt follow firsts usual depots where they just have a little maintanance area and park all buses outside like york, bolton, cherry row, bradford, huddersfield etc, but with atkinson street they have a big wharehouse as the depot and a bit of outside area.

Also the 757 is staying at Kirkstall/Hunslet for the foreseeable future. I have been told that apart from a small swap round of buses within the depots, there are no plans at the moment for new/newer buses to goto Kirkstall/Hunslet, but as usual things can change at very short notice!! (like brand new buses turning up @ kirkstall a few years ago that nobody new were coming) Another but of info for you all, is that Leeds City Council are looking into stopping the move until December 2008 due to the on-going roadworks in the area until then.

I bet First are not pleased with that, it's already delayed the openning due to the Inner Ring Road construction. However I can see where LCC is coming from, as the roads around there are already congested during the peak hours, throw in an extra 80 buses going backwards and forwards from the depot. It will increase the problem.

I don't think the roads around the area are any worse than the current depot location on Kirkstall Road at peak times!

Or Cherry Row for that matter. The buses park up on the road outside as the depot was badly designed so causes a back log of buses when been fueled on a night time.

If the 2/3/3A and 12/13/13A services are moving to Atkinson Street does that mean the new B9TLs are moving from Cherry Row?

|

Post by Craig on Dec 30, 2007 17:18:33 GMT 1
The new B9TLs have been purchased specifically for the (soon to be) Red & Blue Lines so I imagine they will move depot if necessary.
Does anyone have any concrete info for depot moves yet as so far there seem to be several varying rumours.

Would be good to see some of the older B7TL Geminis on the Red and Blue lines instead of the ALX400s.

The site is the former Douthwaite Florists Supplies and as such is a very large warehouse that is being converted. Also some additional bits are being built on the outside.

Latest date for Atkinson St becoming operational is 04/05/08. (Unless the council put it back again).
