The J-YRM Olympians could be going quite soon as 30709 has recently been repainted all white. All these are leased and not owned by First and the terms and conditions dictate that they are repainted into dealer white when returned. Another is in the paint shops and they are receiving First fleet names etc on all white base which suggests they will be used for a short period of time. Thought I'd resurrect this with latest info. Talking to one of the painters from Kirkstall tonight and he says First have decided to keep the J-YRM's for a period of more than 1 year. That explains why recent repaints have been in First Livery. 30715 is in the paintshop now being so treated and should be out within the next week. Apparently the lease on these buses is being paid to First South Yorkshire! Not sure what their involvement is although I think some did briefly work in Rotherham on their journey up from London.

I had wondered if First were going to be keeping them as 30714 was parked outside Kirkstall yesterday in Barbie 3 and wearing a Gold Star.

So what services are moving to the new Depot? From what i understand its the 2,3, 3a, etc and most of Kirkstalls buses unless they are moving to Cherry. Can someone from first or anyone for that matter explain what the gold stars mean, i have always wanted to know.

Well all Leeds based vehicles recieve them after being repainted. I think they show that the buses will be maintained to a high standard and keep vandalism to a minimum. I think there is also some special liquid that spray anti social passengers. This liquid can't be removed easily from the suspect and can be picked up by UV light.
Well if you compare the 2006 batch of Geminis in Leeds, the Kirkstall based ones that show the star have relatively little etched glass whilst the Bramley ones have more etching.

Hunslet Park depot makes a lot more sense geographically than the aforementioned Holbeck Park name!

Hi
I got told today by the a traffic manager that the new First Leeds, hunslet park depot will not be opening until October now.
I was told thats its Something to do with that they would be too many buses around and that the roads wont be able to cope due to the road works in the area at the moment. Also there is a delay to the construction of the new fly-over which is been built in the area.

I was thinking today how would the 92 bus driver change over and i got it at the tannery. But now the kirkstall is closing First wont want a free driver hanging around on albion street while getting payed and waiting for the 92 turn up if it is late so how will they do the layover. Will it be when the bus comes in from Beckett Park or what???
Also now the bus drivers on the 28 can change over at clarence dock which means that they dont block up eastagte although they park right at the bottom now!!!

All of Kirkstall's allocation except the ten Geminis are moving to Hunslet Park, the Geminis along with route 42 are going to Cherry Row.
The B9TLs and B7TLs at Cherry Row allocated to the Red and Blue Lines are moving to Hunslet Park.
The '06 plate Geminis at Bramley are going to Cherry Row along with the 51/51A routes.

All buses (except 2) jave now been relocated from LKG to LHG and the depot is now operational.
Yours truly had the dubious honour of been the last driver to book on & operate out of LKG before closure.

Hunslet Park have been quick to utilise B7TLs onto the Headingley corridor with 30916/19/20 operating the 28, 96 and 97.
All buses I have seen now carry the new operating centre address on the nearsides.

All buses I have seen now carry the new operating centre address on the nearsides. And Cherry Row has been equally quick in utilising its newly-received, slightly older fleet of Geminis, with 37033 (YJ06 XKY) out on the 98 today.

I'd have liked to have seen the 06-plate Geminis move to Hunslet, making the Red/Blue Lines all Gemini! The 42 and 51/51A routes could of used the ALX400s. After all half the time the 51/51A uses either a Strider or an old Scania Decker.

After all half the time the 51/51A uses either a Strider or an old Scania Decker. That would have made rather good sense, especially since none of the '06 Geminis are branded (despite promises by First!) Could be argued that it's not really a logical step forward to replace 2 year old buses on the 42 & 51/51A with ones that are approaching 8 years old, however tarted-up ALX400s would probably have done the trick all the same. The change does of course signal the end of Striders and old deckers on the 51/51A (and 42) - these services will (at last!) be guaranteed low-floor (as they should have been in the first place!)

felt weird seein different buses on different routes.
Within an hour of going to work, I went from home on 37037 on 42, seein 37041,and 37042 goin the opposite way on 42.
37028 on 51 which looked odd, but to the untrained eye no-one would have notice , unless you look at the fleet number
37039 on X98 going up the headrow.
31144 on 33 heading towards the bus station.
seems weird how they've changed the fleet, but i think it's for the better at least.

The 51/51A felt more of a Cherry Row operation today with an ALX400 and a 07 plate Eclipse Urban on the route.

Saw a Strider on the 12 this evening heading up The Headrow, displaying 'Green Line' on the destination. Also a couple of Red/Blue Line branded B9TLs on the 96 and the 33A. Seen a couple of familiar Cherry Row drivers on the 42 today, who used to be regulars on the 2/3/3A 12/13/13A routes.
