First need to refurbish buses around this age. Transdev certainly do as do Arriva.

All it takes is a fresh clean new interior. After 10 years cloth will wear and tear and smell. First just runs buses into the ground.

I wonder if the Aberdeen centric management of FirstGroup under Lockhead resulted in the local businesses not having a substantial engineering budget to facilitate refurbishments.

Nothing wrong running them day after day until something goes wrong. If it isn't broken then it doesn't need fixing. That will be most Independent Operators philosophy

Arriva seemed to have realised this and sorted out their ALX300s and Spectras that used to churn out dirty black smoke. Arriva have found some pride where as First must love scruffiness.

Try going on an Arriva Sleby President or Castleford ALX400 which is still on the to be refurbished list and see if any of those are neat and tidy inside, not much pride in those yet.

Arriva need to give their Presidents the transdev treatment. Why go to all that expense when a re-trim and a re-paint will do the job.

The Urban90 seats are awful when on long journeys. They are fine for short journeys but when I sit on them all the way to Halifax, they get quite irritating.

When was the last time you saw a First bus with a refurb etc?
Why bother? Before long, the ALX400s will be restricted to school duties. Also, they'll be 11 years old. The Royales & Scania's are older and still haven't received the treatment.

The Royales aren't low floor the ALX400's are and have more life in them.

The Royales aren't low floor the ALX400's are and have more life in them. So, I ask again, when was the last time you saw a refurbished First bus? I think the last ones in West Yorks to recieve such treatment were the 1990 Volvo Citybuses? (excluding the Marshall Darts as they were to be refurbed before going into service) These have since gone to the scrappers, not too long after their refurbishments. Thing is, with any bus under FirstBus (especially in West Yorkshire), it wont see a refurb. Especially when the ALX400s will soon be confined to school workings.

Nearly every London Bus has a refurb when it leaves the capital, so it may be a possibility that any non London bus may recieve a mid-life refurb if First don't like them.

I think Leeds refurbished their Superbus Striders only 2 years after entering service when they did an interior replacement.
