Further to this, 8640 (61118) L640PWR looks to be going as well due to an RTA and is unlikely to get repaired.

Yes, they were withdrawn on the 18th/19th Jan and replaced at Hunslet Park by those already listed. I had 61086 on Sat night on the 23:30 Otley to Leeds X84 (sorry Nick) and it gave a belting performance as we thrashed through Bramhope and onwards to Leeds. At the moment they are destined for scrap due to First's policy of not selling on the market and the fact there's nowhere in the group to place them. They don't seem to hang around long now either once withdrawn as 61093 was withdrawn on 12th Jan and collected by PVS breakers on Mon 19th. Some of Bramley's in the 611xx region are due off shortly. On a brighter note all remaining Scania 'deckers were out in normal service today (Tues) although to be honest 36930 in particular is not the best example and has sounded ropey for a while now.

What is the scrap value for one of these examples ? With first's policy, will they sell to a preservation group ? Does pvc breakers own the scrap yard that there going too or is it just the haulage firm ? The cheque book may have to come out haha Cheers

I like the idea of 61083 getting it's donated engine re-fixed, then a few weeks later getting withdrawn. What a waste of resources.

Further to this 8601 K601HUG (61079) has now been withdrawn. If someone was looking to preserve one, it would have to be this one as it was the first Strider for Yorkshire Rider.

It's not so much of a climb along the A660 that I could see vehicles struggling. This road more or less skirts the Chevin, unlike the Otley Old Road which really would test the Striders!

I think it is the long slight gradient that is the problem.

I think it is the long slight gradient that is the problem. Wont the gearbox struggle to decide what gear to put it in, i.e dropping dow if its struggling or going up when its not?

I would just phone up the general enquiries line. However, have you got space to keep the bus, I would imagine not so you're going to have to store it elsewhere which will cost money. Do you have a PCV license so you can actually drive it!?
Last of all, I expect you will want to preserve either bus back to its original condition which will cost an absolute bomb!

personally i do not hold a PCV, but i have a group of friends that do hold one that drive VR's and RE's in there spare time. If i was to purchase one, there are 3 preservation garages that are a 50 mile radius from where i live back in south wales. But like you said it will cost me an arm & a leg. Thank you for the information jack it is much appreciated, i will question the price and will weigh up my options. But I might just wait until Harrogate Coach Travel are finished with the services of K107YTX and K108YTX (2 ex-newport transport/northern blue striders) as these two were the ones that i grew up with. Does anybody know of any other preservation group that are keen to secure the future of a first leeds strider, as i would be very keen to contribute and keep in touch. Cheers Dan

Well Harrogate Coach Travel's owner Craig Temple is an enthusiast himself. He owns a few ex WYPTE buses and as you can tell with HCT's fleet, is a fan of Scanias! So it could be possible that he could be interested in such a vehicle and show your interest in helping preserve one with him.

Apparently 61095 is expected to receive a new MOT for another 12 months service. Some of the batch have suffered from cracks in the chassis and these can only be welded so many times.
61095 must be one of the better examples.

Hence the poor ride quality of some of them then!
