Just scouring the web and found the results of the Office Of Fair Trading inquiry into Arriva and First in Leeds. It's quite an interesting read. Maybe if First has continued to run the 223 and 224 services, we could have had an overground route from Leeds, through Drighlington and Cleckheaton to Halifax! we could also have had an Arriva service running up passed the Universities and Headingley to Holt Park. www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/ca98_public_register/decisions/leedsbus.pdfI used the Taylors services up to Headingley, often on Leyland National Mk 1's. They were re-upholstered and had red painted floors! The Headingley corridor was much more interesting back then with the 63B Black Prince every 20 minutes to Boddington Hall, along with the Leeds Suburban 752 to Kirkstall and Taylors services to Holt Park.

There wrong First Leeds did not run the M62 Service, it is Calderdale & Huddersfield which ran it with Royales. Have you heard what they called Black Prince a small independent company LOL.
As for saying the leeds would have had an Overground route to Halifax is nonsense as First Halifax Decided have an overground network into leeds. I would imagine that it would of probably been a Royale Dedicated route and probably every Half Hour with only One Service Running.
Arriva would of withdrawn out of the market, or probably spilt the Leeds-Holt Park route into around 3.
Reason for Editing: Changed 2 incorrect spelling of Royale!

"K Lines routes 223 and 224 differed slightly from those of FirstGroup and resulted in civil disruption from residents in the streets of the new routes"
What does it mean by civil disruption?

For the first few weeks of operation, First Leeds did operate the M62 on a joint basis with First Calderline under the First Express branding. Scania single deckers were operated by first Leeds on this route. After a couple of months, First Calderline took over the whole operation.

K-Line/Taylors took it over after Bigfoot ceased public services I'm sure if First had kept the 223/224 it'd still be running every 30 minutes (rather than running not at all under Arriva) and as said above it'd probably be Royales or Scania/Alexander Striders running it

First Leeds/Quickstep were given the 223/4 routes way back in the mid 1990's, when they wanted to close an old Yorkshire Rider depot in the Wakefield area They offered it to West Riding, in exchange for a route out of Leeds that was easy to learn, 223/4 fitted that bill. At that time, I was a taxi driver in Cleck, and used to see a minibus full of drivers learning the route All they did in this case, was return the favour and give back West Riding/Yorkshire Woollen the 223/4.

(but this could have been Scania K1 YRL, all striders look identical from the front , whether Scania N113, L113, Dennis Lance or Volvo B10B)
