Today I was in Horsforth town street in a cafe from 1130 until 14.30 and did a little bit of research on buses passing.
A&A travel - service 30. Never saw the service operate at all. However one of their deckers came down the road once at a time the bus wasn’t due with no destination.
Yorkshire Buses 9 - all journeys operated but were between 10-15 minutes late.
29 - 12.10 operated but 13.10 & 14.10 never came. When I was going home the 15.10 was viewed 25 minutes late. This was a whopping 3 hour gap ! The couple opposite me in the cafe saud the 29 now turns round at West Park but I can’t see a new timetable saying that ?
First 50 was fairly regular with all journeys operating.
You can see why people don’t travel by bus !

To be honest, although credit does go to Yorkshire Buses for trying the extensions to the 9 and 29, they are simply far too long and need cutting back to aid reliability. I'd personally just run the 9 from White Rose to Pudsey, maybe perhaps extending off peak to Horsforth Town Street but that's it. As for the 29, turning that at West Park isn't a bad idea, but it does copy many other First services. However a better suggestion for turning the bus at Headingley and in turn serving a unique route would be to do a one way circuit of Shaw Lane, Monkbridge Road, Meanwood Road and Grove Road back to Shaw Lane returning to Leeds etc as there are no Leeds bound buses on the majority of that circuit.

I think traffic today has been horrendous everywhere, I even saw someone say Wakefield CC was busy with footfall.
Very harsh to judge scheduling on a few hours.

My parents went for the 12.10 Horsforth 29 on Thursday to go to Hunslet…no show.
A journey which was scheduled to take 45 minutes took 90 minutes and a change of bus as a result ( 6 & 12 ) costing £4 instead of £2.
Nothing on their Twitter or Facebook communicating the cancelled journeys

That's just it, you've hit the nail on the head, traffic is just too horrendous in Leeds for lengthy bus routes to succeed without significant resources thrown at them in times of dire trouble which sadly often happens on the entire Leeds roads network! Yorkshire buses themselves even did a recent post via Facebook highlighting all the hold ups. You can't cure Leeds traffic no matter how hard you try!

Whilst you can't, curtailing routes based on 2/3 hours findings is definitely not right or because companies dont have the resources.

Not just based on 2 to 3 hours findings, based on months of findings over all sorts of days. Personally I can no longer rely on the 9 to connect into a 255 when travelling from Beeston to Halifax, instead I now walk up to Whitehall Road. For example, a few weeks ago a mid morning weekday service 9 was cancelled because it ran so late due to multiple roadworks/incidents somewhere. Two other people waiting ended up sharing a taxi and said they often have issues with it. First gave up on the 9 in part because they had trouble with reliability, it's a viable route but must be cut back so it has a chance to maintain reliability. Don't forget the ring road isn't a proper road in many places on it's entire stretch between White Rose and Horsforth.

With the morning heavy traffic 9s would be better to be every 75 mins hourly off peak

Yorkshire Buses seem like a good company but they clearly cannot handle their timetables judging by their daily "rants" about traffic etc. I'm sure they will learn but regardless of the facts that traffic is dire, we all know the general public will blame the buses.

Well you didn't give any more than your sightings yesterday, so you can see why I was assuming there was no more. The timetable must have been achievable at some point.

If you re-read the post you’ll see the Thursday comment. The suggestion from locals in Morrisons that it turns as west park doesn’t bode well for the reliability previously. My parents also have at least 4 other occasions in the last 2 weeks the bus hasn’t arrived within 30 minutes of timetable so gave up.

17.10 Horsforth - White Rose 29 no show 18.10 Horsforth - White Rose 29 no show
Was travelling to Hunslet centre so caught the 50 into town then the 12 to Hunslet. Arrived 19.40 from finishing work at 1700 I’m glad I only work 2 random days at the Horsforth branch.
Can see nothing on Twitter or Facebook about cancelled journeys, if I had known the second journey was not coming I would have gone on an early 50. This is getting ridiculous now.

If I could just add I went for the 0910 @ white rose 29 this morning, that never appeared. No issue I went to Greggs Amy excuse !! Went back for the 10.10 29 and that arrived 10.30 20 late.
Whilst I appreciate traffic congestion the operator should address that in the timetable or reschedule/ resource appropriately. This isn’t a one off but thankfully my rides are non essential and just to get out of the flat !
Free speech should be allowed on here regardless of the nature.

I believe the 29 turns round at West Park when it is running late, due to poor traffic along the route (including in Horsforth). There doesn't seem to be much opportunity to make this time up. I'd guess that this may be something to do with the section of the 29 up to Horsforth being purely commercial unlike the rest of the route?

Yorkshire buses do need to do something about the times for all their services as they regularly have been informing passengers of traffic delays on all routes. I'm not trying to diss the management, but they really do need to build in lots of extra time in peak hours, and perhaps maybe reduce all frequencies as well as curtail routes. The 61A for example could cope by having one of it's journeys removed during the AM peak so the rest can have more time added in for when South Accommodation Road/Hunslet becomes it's usual car park, as I've previously said the 29 should be cut back to terminate somewhere in the Headingley area and the 9 cut back to Pudsey during peak times. The thing is this traffic ain't going anywhere and will most likely get worse up to Christmas just like it does every year, worse still the A660 is due for one hell of a period of disruption for many miles over many months if not years. Add in massive disruption for when roads close for incidents and you've got a real problem with reliability which the public quite rightly won't tolerate. Take this afternoon, some numpty caused a crash (I say caused as no crash is an accident) involving 3 cars which practically gridlocked Beeston for a while around school kicking out time. It took service 1 a massive 50 minutes to travel from Beeston terminus to Albion Street. Elland Road closed because of the crash which meant traffic diverted through Beeston's narrow road network, the Ring Road and M621 were also badly affected. Service 9 had to divert through the narrow Beeston roads to get down to White Rose wrestling with HGVs on the way down Milshaw.

The problem is on the 9 it needs another bus in the system as it's more then a hour from horsforth to white rose
Same on the 29 hourly services but not enough buses on the routes
Stage coach can even judge there long ranged services well
As there 2 hourly services run with no probs only the peak time run can be half hour late

13.10 Horsforth - WRC 29 no show
Quite by chance I was in Horsforth this evening and a YB decker arrived at just before 6pm and I thought wow bang on time for the 18.10 return. Alas no this was the 17.10 bus running 50 minutes late !
Timetable is now in complete chaos at the Horsforth end.

Not a single post in this thread deserves that kind of response It is nice to have somebody from the industry but we should not bend over backwards and suppress our criticisms and concerns But we need to be respectful towards them and their team of staff. They've been posting all year that both routes are suffering to been plagued with multiple roadworks along the full length of both routes (9 & 29) and that's without factoring delays with breakdowns/vandelism or staff/passenger illness. They've only just introduced an amended timetable on 9 so we need to give them chance to try and see if the timetable settles. Remember for changes notice it went back to been about 4 months. If it was running to Seacroft similar to Squarepeg's 9 then yes you can look to split the service
