Maybe they need to consider bringing back some old routes like the 428/9 which ran oulton- rothwell- lofthouse- (occasionally journeys served thorpe lane terminus) - east ardsley and onto morley. I'd imagine this could be easily run with say 2 midi- buses on an hourly frequency. This provided links with rothwell to the sports centre. Served rodillian school. Provided local link from east ardsley to morley. Part of this old route was replaced in segments now run as the 47 and 22 i think Perhaps getting Arriva to maybe run it using e200minis or even 2 of the long e200s, could be ran out of Castleford or Wakey depot

The thing is the 118 is commercial, but only just Monday to Saturday daytime. You take custom away from it anything further and it's unviable except for a handful of journeys up by Junction 41. So, are WYCA willing to fund it in full should it become unviable? Somehow I doubt it. To give you an idea as to how much custom it has lost, I boarded a late Saturday afternoon journey last week, and one regular was surprised it was so busy, it was only 2 thirds full approx on a Tronic! I've often boarded journeys that have never been anything more than half full between Wakefield and Beeston on a Saturday afternoon.

I wish they would send 118 back to Leeds it strengthened the White Rose corridor out of Leeds.

Not sure if Saturday Afternoon is the best time of the week to gauge how busy a service is and how well used it is.

So perhaps give people in these areas a bus that goes where they want to go?

I think so I used to remember the B10 Renowns working that route a lot, and the ALX300s. I definitely remember seeing the Renowns in Morley.

More bus routes to different locations in a community is nowhere near harmful to another bus route. If anything, it probably maintains usage. An example, Gildersome. It has some weirdly high bus usage, considering the smaller population, lower density, and, demographics. This is probably due to the amount of options that are available to the community. They can easily access the small towns of Kirklees, as well as (almost) all of the main cities. Not as comparable to the route in the thread, but it shows the potential.

Backwater villages π. 118 doesn't go to half of those conurbations, or connect to Leeds. It goes through 2 of them, East Ardsley and Thorpe. Those 2 places take up quite a bit of custom heading to White Rose and I doubt all are just going to visit there, many will change to head to Leeds. The 47 took custom off the 118 making the 118 less viable, this new service will take even more off, hence why Tronics are nearly always used. Why do these places need a direct link to Leeds via Rothwell anyway? What's in Rothwell, nothing! Worse than frigging Morley! What I've found out by living on the 118 and using it to get back from school is Belle Isle are using the E200 Midis on the wrong boards, the 1615 ex Wakefield is often full and stood where as the 1515 journey can be empty despite the decker on it!

Would a more local Flexi bus for South Leeds do the job. Could work with Blending Morley, Tingley, Ardsley , Middleton ( for Asda ) , Belle Isle, Rothwell, Woodlesford, Swillington. Possibly Kippax, Garforth connections.
Donβt know the demographics on the East Leeds Flexi bus and how well that is. I have seen people using it along Harehills Lane / Lupton Ave.
