Although I have been on some buses in both cities, I don't really know many interurban routes there, sorry.

Depends on what you are trying to do and your definition of scenic, there isn't anything that will quite match a Yorkshire scenic route. There isn't a lot out of Nottingham, much of Nottinghamshire is quite urbanised and that is where most of the buses go but the NCT 100 to Southwell is quite nice (and allows return via either Mansfield or Newark which are also decent runs) & the bottom end of the NCT 1 to Loughborough is also quite pretty allowing return by Kinch 9 (more direct but not without attraction). Derby (easy to reach from Nottingham) offers more opportunities for scenic routes as you can easily get into the bottom of the Peak District at Ashbourne or Matlock.
Leicester offers a bit more nice countryside. The Arriva 153 to Market Bosworth is probably the prettiest but due to recent service cuts you would have to come back on the same route as there isn't another route to Market Bosworth anymore. The Centrebus 747 to Uppingham is quite pretty even if it largely sticks to the main road & allows a return via Melton (Blands Travel R1 & Arriva 5A from Melton to Leicester) or even a wider loop on the Centrebus 8 on to Loughborough & then back (the Centrebus 154 offers the most attractive route from Loughborough to Leicester as it runs away from the main road whereas the more frequent Arriva 127 runs down what is effectively a continuous urban stretch from Loughborough to Leicester). You can also head south to Lutterworth (Arriva 84 & X84) & then return via Hinckley (Arriva 8 to Hinckley & either X6 down Motorway which isn't scenic but uses Temsa Safari coaches for something different or Arriva 158 & Stagecoach 148 down the old road) or Market Harborough (Centrebus 58, probably more scenic but lower frequency, then either Arriva X3 or Stagecoach X7 back to Leicester).
If you want to do it all in one day trip loop you can easily (there are some low frequency runs to keep an eye on as to whether you can fit into the time available but easier on weekdays than weekends) do the following starting in either City: NCT 100 to Southwell Stagecoach to Newark Centrebus 24 to Grantham Centrebus 8 to Melton Blands R1 to Uppingham Centrebus 747 to Leicester Centrebus 154 to Loughborough NCT 1 to Nottingham Centrebus 24

Hi, I'm visiting Leicester and Nottingham on Wednesday 10th May and wondered if anyone recommends any scenic routes that I could have a trip on Thanks All the routes betwen Nottingham and Loughborough are quite scenic - the 1, 9 and Skylink, though they'll take a chunk out of your day. It's quite a scenic trip to Market Harborough on the X3 or X7. Unfortunately they've both dropped to being hourly and in most hours they're 5 minutes apart out of Leicester.
