I went to this event yesterday and I have to say it was a great event overall, despite some over enthusiastic people trying their best to spoil it. First of all there was a village idiot who boarded one of the Isle of Axeholme tours with a hot drink, now that's not the idiotic bit. Instead of disembarking and gracefully waiting for the next one, or quietly without fuss disposing of it, he threw it away in a proper huff, and decided to then puff and blow the driver away with a sweary shouty rant. Apparently the driver had no right to ban drinks as it wasn't his bus, which it was. Big bad bear was not in the best of moods, and quite rightly the driver wanted him off the bus. After a stand off which involved 2 other drivers, all the passengers except idiot were asked to board another bus, some started to get off then idiot at this point ran off down the road resulting in everyone who got off having to re-board!
The next village idiots were all those who continuously photographed trolley buses and the Axeholme tour/Doncaster buses right in the middle of the road as they were moving towards them! Several tannoy announcements didn't stop this major problem, it's all good and well seeing the vehicle in front, but what about the one behind!
The New Zealand trolleybus was fantastic to ride on, and the Axeholme tour was so good I had another go! The Doncaster runs gave significant value for money for the entry price paid even if they could be ridden for free. Fantastic food to be had in the cafe as well, especially the cakes, the only down side was the dirty toilets over the road from the cafe. Lots of stalls as well as static bus/trolleybus/vintage car displays, well worth going to next year.
