What if West Yorkshire had a heavy nightbus network?

This thread is a scenario of if West Yorkshire had a good nightbus network like Greater Manchester.

So you are free to state which bus services you would think that would be operating after midnight.

Calderdale:
20 Halifax-Rye Lane
Perhaps can run every 2 hours until the 3 o'clock.

501 Halifax-CRH-WestVale-Elland-AinleyTop-Lindley-HRI-Huddersfield
This service will probably run over the 503 as during the night time you wouldn't need more faster alternatives as traffic is relatively low. This service can run hourly after midnight. with a stop at 3 o'clock.

502 Halifax-BeechwoodRd-Illingworth
This service can have an after midnight service of every 2 hours with a stop at 3 o'clock.


503 Halifax-CRH-WestVale-Elland Southgate
This service combined with 501 could run half hourly to Elland Southgate with a stop at 3 o'clock.

508 Halifax-Northowram-Shelf-OsdalTop-Pudsey-Farsley-Kirkstall-Leeds Park Row
This service could run hourly after midnight with possibly the last journey going as far as Farsley or Pudsey from Halifax. with a stop at 3 o'clock.

512 Halifax-Wheatly Road-Mixenden
This service could be every 2 hours after midnight with a stop at 3 o'clock.

521 Halifax-Ovenden-Illingworth
This service could run half hourly after midnight with a stop at 3 o'clock.

526 Halifax-BeechwoodRd-Roundhill
This service can have a journey after midnight terminating at Roundhill Estate. An extra journey on Fridays and Saturdays

541 Halifax-Siddal
Journeys can run between Halifax and Siddal hourly after midnight with a stop at 3 o'clock.


549 Brighouse to Nunnery Lane
Journeys can run hourly after midnight with a stop at 3 o'clock.


563 Halifax to Copley
Journeys can run every 2 hours with a stop at 3 o'clock.


571 Halifax-Southowram-Brighouse
Journeys can run every 2 hours with a stop at 3 o'clock.


574 Halifax to Savile Park
Journeys can run every 2 hours however running back via the 546 route to Halifax. Runs on a circular route with a stop at 3 o'clock.


576 Halifax-Bradford
Buses can run every 30 minutes with a stop at 3 o'clock.


579 Halifax-SowerbyBridge-Sowerby
Buses can run every hour with a stop at 3 o'clock.


586 Ripponden-Commons
1 return journey after midnight Mon-Thursday and an extra 2 journeys 1 each direction on Fridays and Saturdays for people using the Malthouse or the Last Post Pubs.

Night buses only really seem to work in heavily built up, student-focussed areas, for obvious reasons.

The only experience I have of that really is the 86 in Liverpool going down Smithdown Road.

72 Leeds - Bradford wouldn't be a bad shout but it's not student focussed, so would rely on people working night shifts and people going out into town on Fri/ Sat nights.

Something on Kirkstall Road would be great but how far you would run it; I'm not sure. Maybe The Fleece at Horsforth or even to the Airport (if the planned expansion happens).

A late night network around Wetherby with connections to a late bus from Leeds would work simply because the one taxi company willing to serve Wetherby are very expensive to say the least, something like 8 quid for the first mile!

Some of those routes don't even have an evening service at the moment!

The Malthouse closes at 2300. It's fairly well served by the last 586 as it is. A journey leaving Halifax after midnight will cause some long waits.

The 80s/90s N51/2/3 in Halifax could have standing room only on a double decker on the 0215 departure but the 2345 and 0000 departures could be quiet.

But this was a world where all pubs closed just after 2300 and clubs at 0200.

First did briefly try a Nightbus between Leeds and Halifax via the 72 and 508 routes in 1998. The fare was £1 unless you crossed Bradford and £2 if you did. I only caught it once (as I still then had to get a taxi home from Halifax) and it was quiet.
