In the recent years, Arriva scrapped the 278 bus service between Halifax and Dewsbury without public consultation. Arriva had it down for low passenger use however, a lot of Mirfield and Brighouse locals could argue that it simply is not true. Arriva also cut it back in 2014 to run between Dewsbury and Halifax only rather than towards Wakefield.
I believe Metro should make a new contract for a service between Halifax and Dewsbury. Possibly maybe run the old 573 route round Manor Heath Park, Dryclough lane towards the front of the Calderdale Royal Hospital into Salterhebble and then along towards West Vale, Elland and along the same route it ran towards Leeds Road and then up Stocks Bank Road onto Huddersfield Road, Mirfield and then along the A644 towards Dewsbury. Possibly the service can exstend towards Wakefield like it used to. This are suggested places to cause the bus route to be used even more.
Will Arriva run this service again, possibly not however more likely operator would be Team Pennine (as the service runs through Elland) South Pennine Community Transport, Ct Plus and not as much but is possible, TLC Travel.
As well as this the CityZap service failed between Leeds and Manchester back in 2018. However, now that Team Pennine run under the Transdev Blazefield group, a possible way to make the service more used is for it to run off the M62 at junction 23, along the A640 into Huddersfield serving the Newhey Road/Acre Street bus stop for the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Huddersfield Bus Station and then up Halifax Road to Ainley Top for junction 24 and along the M62/M621 into Leeds City Bus Station. And rather than being ran by Transdev Burnley & Pendle, Team Pennine can run it instead.

The Manchester-Leeds Cityzap suggestion was fired up straight-away as soon as Transdev announced the start up of Team Pennine but it's been implied to be not coming back. As for the Halifax-Dewsbury route it would be lovely. Can't see Arriva doing it for a long time yet. I know there's talk from contacts i know of saying CT Plus have been looking in to at least resurrcting the Dewsbury to Brighouse section at least but it'll depend on if any operator sees both options as been viable at the moment.

Later buses on the X6 (ie one of the busiest routes in West Yorkshire). Last bus being before 19:00 is ridiculous.

Metro aren’t going to issue a tender for a Halifax to Dewsbury service. All parts of the route have alternative services except for between Brighouse and Mirfield, and that section has few houses in between, and is served by a direct hourly rail service

I agree there should be a bus from Halifax to Dewsbury but think it should run via the A649 and Heckmondwike. One of the problems with the 278 was it went such a long way round, especially from Halifax to Brighouse

Not going to happen though.

Going back to the old 1988 Yorkshire Rider timetable, there was a direct link from Cottingley to the shopping part of Beeston (Co Op etc), now things have changed round there a lot, but there are still enough local facilities Cottingley residents need access to in central Beeston, from the 2 schools to the large doctors surgery to pubs! Diverting service 55 through central Beeston instead of Elland Road would pull in more custom than it does now, you could even argue it'd be handy for Asda on Old Lane which would be very popular with families. The bit of Elland Road that wouldn't served outbound isn't too far from the nearest alternative stops at either end.

Extend the 548 to Elland and operate via the 278 route from Nunnery Lane to Elland Town Hall and then via Huddersfield Road, South Lane, South Parade, Savile Road, Victoria Road and back to Nunnery Lane via the 278 route. This could be done easily and fits well with the existing timetable but wouldn't happen. Now that the banks have now shut and gone in Elland the nearest ones are in Brighouse but is fairly difficult to get to by bus - yes there's the 563 but it hardly touches where most people live. The morning and afternoon 278s were fairly busy with people travelling on that section. Dont forget the 278/279 was a fairly core half hourly service 20 years ago.
