So this is the next idea/scheme from the Combined Authority/Metro which includes upgrading the Hub in Heckmondwike to a Bus Station (as per the original plan before the hub) and which will have an extra 2 stands (like Batley, Cleckheaton & Ossett), introduction of Bus Lanes, segregated Cycling etc. Public Consultation is open and running until Tuesday 17th August 2021. Website for it: www.yourvoice.westyorks-ca.gov.uk/a638travelPlans have also been revealed for the proposed new Bus Station in Dewsbury which is predicted to take 12 months with start date been late 2022 with £19.6m been spent on the Bus Station improvement. First survey is live for 7 weeks with another consultation due in Late Autumn of this year. They don't half know how to waste money, but not how to spend it. Dewsbury has a reasonable enough indoor bus station, it's not going to have anything different to this new fangled one. After 6 months the roof will leak, just like Leeds bus station does. The new bus station will be too cold in winter, just like Leeds is, and on hot days will be too warm. It'll still have all the scroats hanging around whilst security just hope they don't kick off, just like in Leeds. Leeds has seen various 'improvements' over the years such as upgrades to CCTV, roof repairs, major carriageway repairs etc, but the bus station is still a crime riddled scroat infested leaking cold/hot unpleasant at times place to wait. Can't see how knocking Dewsbury bus station (which having a roof, seats etc is is perfectly fine as it is) and building another similar looking station will make it more attractive.

Dewsbury's does need upgrading as the doors breakdown more often. Stand 16 is a store cupboard atm and there's stands 18 & 19 which are the OLD style shelters. Now looking at the artist's impressions it looks like they may be completely shifting the building back slightly and to fullly fulfil it Metro must be purchasing the current Police Station site to expand expand the footway and road. It'll be interesting for when the works start as all services will have to reloacte again and can see a temporary stand or 2 been set up on South Street where the cab rank is.

All they really need to do with Dewsbury is replace the worn out bits, such as doors, or fix anything up that needs fixing, such as the roof if it leaks. They don't need to replace a perfectly adequate structure, the coach stands could also be kept as well because the new bus station will still need to be accessible when closed, meaning an outside stand that's probably going to be just as bad in terms of warmth and cover than the current coach stands. It's ironic that demolition, and rebuilding has been seen as a major factor in environmental problems yet WYCA and it's associate, Connecting Leeds, seem hell bent on demolition and construction.

It’s not a new bus station, it’s a refurbishment of the current one. If you look at the plans you can see it’s the same footprint as currently

www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/huddersfield-dewsbury-heckmondwike-bus-stations-23628342Three Kirklees Bus Stations; Dewsbury, Heckmondwike & Huddersfield will be all revamped at a combined cost of £28m. Heckmondwike's Bus Station will be on the site of the current hub and will consist of 5 stands (4 in regular use and 1 as a Layover stand). It will have toilets, pods, office and an outdoor seating area under canopy. It will cost £4.97m with work Commencing October 2022 and due to be completed by August 2023. I envisage the temp stops for routes will be: 201/201a Batley & Leeds will go from outside Peacocks 229 Birstall & Leeds bound will go from outside Greenside Taxi Office opposite McDonalds. 229 Huddersfield bound from it's old stop near Morrisons 254/254A Cleckheaton & Leeds bound from outside the Park near the Funeral Directors 254/254A Dewbury bound from outside Peacocks 261 Cleckheaton bound from outside the Park near Funeral Directors 261 Mirfield & Huddersfield bound from outside Peacocks 268 Cleckheaton & Bradford bound picking up at stop near the library and the stop by the park. 268 Dewsbury & Wakefield bound picking up from outside Peacocks. 271 Cleckheaton & Batley bound, Alighting outside Peacocks and picking up outside Greenside Cars. ML1 is 50/50, if it sticks to current route first Heckmondwike stop would be the one outside the Library. If it goes back to the previous routing the first pick-up would be outside Peacocks. Dewsbury's will start in September 2023 with Completion of January 2025 and will cost £14.3M. Now if the changes to Longcauseway dont start until after the refurb then things will run smoothly if not will be a logistical nightmare. Huddersfield's has already commenced and will cost £9.1M and is alread causing chaos.

That was the intention of the first plans before the current hub got built. The land where the Hub currently is can only accommodate 5 Max looking at the plans but i wouldn't have the layover stand where it is. The only site that would have been big enough for 6+ is where the Heckmondwike Health Centre stands. It's like with the current Batley one it's only a 6 Stand due to been built the wrong way round as the original plans there had it been built right behind the Aldi where there's more space and it was also supposed to have accommodate Coaches and school services more easily too.

Does anyone actually know when construction will start? I swear it was due to start as of Spring this year. depends on how soon contractors can start plus it's been extended so is now a larger area been done. Heckmondwike's bus hub is due to start been converted to the station layout in the coming months once the temporary stop locations are set up. The plans for Dewsbury Bus Station's refurb are only in second phase of consultations so is also running behind schedule slightly.
