I've learned today that the new X1 will interwork with the X57 at Manchester Airport, so in effect some buses will run from Ashbourne to Sheffield via Leek, Macclesfield, Manchester Airport (including the viewing park!), Oxford Road, Manchester centre, Hyde bus station, Glossop and the A57 to Sheffield, and don't forget on Sunday via the notoriously gridlocked Fairholmes bit! Not only that, some buses (I assume on the X1) will start at Alton Towers meaning these interwork with the X71! Can't help but think it's too much interworking with very little room for slack.
Edit, the X1 timetable now suggests it diverts via Alton Towers rather than starting from it, it's still a really tight timetable throughout on both routes, with very little layover at Ashbourne, Sheffield, or even at any major point during the LONG journey. That Snake Pass ain't friendly nor the Woodhead for a start, Snake Pass has been closed once already this month with another incident part blocking it a few days later. I really can't see it all working well to be honest, I think they have gone a bit too far with vehicle efficiency and really should have split the routes, or built in more time.

Nothing on that timetable to suggest the X1 and X71 interwork - the X1 is shown as serving Alton Towers via an 'en-route diversion', as opposed to Alton Towers being a terminus

The X1 has been canned - driver shortages forced Hulleys to cut rather than expand services. D&G have recommenced operating the 108 between Ashbourne and Leek.
