Given a choice between a 331 and a 321, I know I'd choose the latter every time lol. The endless and frankly pointless announcements (how many times do people need reminding to report suspicious activity for crying out loud) on the 331s are bad enough, without that bloody sound every few mins. Yes, that stone thrown at glass sound from something on the roof! Did initially think it was brainless yobs throwing rocks down from Armley Road when I first heard it, I was about to collar the conductor and tell them some stupid ..... were throwing heavy objects on the roof, then I heard it again so came to the conclusion it was some badly designed mechanisim. For those who haven't experienced it yet, imagine someone banging a hard object really hard on something hard, it sounds louder than that. These bangs happen at regular intervals and consist of two just a few seconds apart. The 333 on the return journey was so different, yes there were auto announcements, but nowhere near as many with the sound at a level that wasn't over the top, as in you could hold a conversation on the phone lol.

The clunk is the train going through the neutral section all electric trains do it. You must have been sat under the pantograph at the time. Some trains are louder than others but I can assure you the 321s did it as well. The announcements have to be played at regular intervals

It's defo a hell of a lot louder than any electric train I've ever travelled on, it's more of a loud bang than a clunk, just like as if a rock has been thrown at a window. The announcements do seem far too frequent, and loud on 331s, the difference on the 333 I travelled back on was noticeable, unless the 331 I was on had been programmed wrongly.

The 333s will get a PIS upgrade in due course. When that system went in over 20 years ago there was no need to do the security announcements

Oh god, if that's the case I'd rather endure the bus on Airedale/Wharfedale routes, double the time, but I wouldn't lose the will to live lol. The next station announcements seem a little more frequent in between stations on 331s as well, although that could just be announcement overload getting to me lol.
