I've got that May 1992 timetable here
Buses to Rochdale at that time were
0550 564 to Littleborough via Mill Bank, don't know why it didn't use the 527 number 0640 528 0745 528 0840 561 via Rishworth & Commons 0940 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1040 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1140 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1240 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1340 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1440 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1550 527 via Mill Bank 1650 561 via Rishworth & Commons 1750 527 via Mill Bank 1850 528 1950 527 via Mill Bank 2050 528 2150 527 via Mill Bank 2250 527 via Mill Bank to Gig Mill only
Also in the same timetable there is
559 Halifax to Commons via Ripponden and Gig Mill (every 2 hours) 560 Halifax to Commons via Ripponden and Rishworth (every 2 hours) 562 Halifax to Oldham via Ripponden (hourly - including evenings and sundays) 564 Halifax to Ripponden via Mill Bank (every 2 hours) 566 Halifax to Ripponden via Mill Bank & Soyland (every 2 hours)

Just came across my 1986 Calderdale timetable book which was when I started catching public transport regularly.
Back then, getting from Mill Bank to Ripponden wasn't so easy. The 524 was the forerunner of the 564, but only ran a couple of trips, with many terminating at Sowerby Bridge instead of Halifax.
The 527/528 alternated through the day, but then between Rishworth and Halifax along the main road there was a 560/561/562 every 30 minutes through the day, increasing to every 20 minutes at peaks and on Saturdays. Commons 2 hour gaps in service on the 560 with an every 80 minute evening service (every 40 Halifax - Rishworth). Cunning Corner was served by the 561 hourly in the peaks.
The X12 ran Bradford to Manchester via Ripponden. You could be in Manchester for 0821, but the earliest arrival in Bradford was 1005. As a schoolchild, I often caught the 1645 from Bradford (last bus of the day Monday-Thursday) which took just 40 minutes to get to Ripponden. The X12 ran every other hour Monday-Saturday with occasional extras and 4 each way on a Sunday, two between Manchester and Halifax and two between Manchester and Bradford.
Halifax to Barkisland ran half hourly on the 555/556/557 with two-hourly extensions to Ringstone and Ripponden with just a couple to Dean Head. Monday to Friday there's one each way in each peak on the 559 Elland - West Vale - Ripponden. The two-hourly 558 was rather like the Halifax - Elland section of today's 343.
And then the Monday to Friday peak X23 between Ripponden and Leeds, operated by Yorkshire (taking under an hour).
If you want more details of any of these routes, let me know.

Thanks for Posting Deerfold , remember all these so well, i was a conductor on the Sowerby /Rishworth section at this time , this was the PTEs network on the run up to bus Deregulation on the 26th Oct 86. An interesting anomaly at this time was, Yorkshire/West Riding an NBC subsidiary, withdrew the X12/X23 in Aug 86, the PTE stepped in extending Rishworth /Cunning Corner journeys to Oldham bus station numbered 561, this was short lived as Yelloway motor services won the Tender from Dereg day (556) which Yorkshire Rider (The PTEs opco) won in Feb 1988, which ultimately was re-routed through Sowerby Bridge in April 1991, and now sadly no longer operates.

One 556 a day lasted for years. In summer 1993 I worked in Chadderton for 10 weeks whilst living in Ripponden. I could get the bus from Ripponden to Oldham (562) or Rochdale (528) then another to Chadderton. I had two PTE passes to do this. Some days I'd get the 556 back from Oldham which felt a little odd. On one day the 562 an hour before the one I was on went through the wall at Cunning Corner - fortunately no-one was on board except the driver who was uninjured. Heading on my usual 562 it usually had a few people on until Rishworth, I was usually the only one on over the border and then from Denshaw it'd get busy again. Except on a Wednesday when there was an older lady who used to visit her sister.

These replies are great...I'd posted to the History board about a map I was trying to produce. Current view, with these Halifax - Ripponden- Rochdale services is here: flowmap.blue/1nCHo6PG-K4OpgWz0AuahSuLnzt_a-TNo5Y-SsV99iPw?v=53.669174,-1.972440,11.66,0,0&a=1&b=1&bo=75&c=1&d=0<=1&lfm=ALL&col=YlGn&f=50 There are a few years where I'm working from the map, rather than timetable, and did wonder about some of these -- especially Commons - Parrock Nook - Baitings c. 1992. In the 1990s the 527 was my bus home from school. A full single decker would thread through Mill Bank to the Alma and plenty of times slipped/clipped between there and Soyland. Living at Gig Mill -- which has now all but disappeared as a 'place' -- that last bus turning was quite something to watch. Finally, if any readers have maps, specific Halifax-Rochdale/Oldham or the wider Calderdale timetables they would be willing to part with please let me know as I would be happy to pay for them to be able to create the most comprehensive picture. Thanks!

Ah, I loved travelling on inappropriately large buses on tiny narrow lanes around Calderdale in the mid-90s. Seems crazy now to think it used to be a double decker out to Boulderclough/Hubberton/Steep Lane, for example.
