I’ve just checked a lot of withdrawn buses listed here ukbuses.co.uk/fleet/arrivayorkshire.pdf on the DVLA tax checker and they are all show as being on a SORN. What’s all that about? Surely they don’t all still exist and most will have been scrapped. If they are scrapped they would be untaxed not on a SORN surely?

Arriva keep their old buses until they are fully depreciated, Arriva London has 150 buses that are stored because according to the accountants they are worth more than the scrap dealer will buy them for. Most of the buses are too old for operating on London routes so they will be stored and be declared SORN until they are fully depreciated.

I wonder if any will ever reappear? Is where they are stored accessible for photos do you know?

I'd've thought the 2 W-reg, 6BT engined cadets would be on sorn, but surprisingly they don't seem to be! They've defingely been withdrawn though

Ah, which was that I wonder. I think it was 1916 or 916 which ever one you prefer. Was on 496/148/149 all day and then never seen again after that I believe this was because its ticketer machine was swapped onto another vehicle and the fleet number not programmed until the following day. AFAIK the Cadet was not used in service. Penfold

The Spectras stored at BI (AFAIK there are 8) have had various parts removed from each vehicle. 702 (I think) is heavily stripped and will certainly not be going back on the road. They are all stored at the back of BI with no public access. Penfold

They stored (I believe 8 at BI) pending depreciating to a value that is low enough for them to be scrapped. A lot have donated parts to other vehicles. Penfold
