Arriva 110 Streetdeck 1569 on 17:30 117 Wakefield via Ossett from Leeds They're getting about a bit today, one was leaving Wakefield Bus Station on the 195 this afternoon at the same time as one on the 427. Couldn't get a clear view of either reg. or fleetnumbers but one could have been 1569.

AY 1066 working out of Belle Isle today. Is this just a loan.
Bus tracking website also shows it operating a 496 when I know for fact its on a 446. Presumably its machine has not been programmed correctly as bus number is showing correctly on waybills.

Penfold Question that I ask myself. At the risk of upsetting those who know but don't tell, how about this: 1. Bus Company signs up with central database and with website (eg BusTimes.org). 2. Ticket Machine has to be told registration of vehicle. 3. And route number as each journey commences. 4. Every few minutes, TM transmits data to database but if no mobile signal, data xfer fails until signal regained. 5. Database is made available to whichever websites have signed up/paid for it. 6. BusTimes.org (for one) shows its web pages. Problems occur with 2 and 3. And probably more. Now, someone tell us how it really works!

Companies don’t "sign up” to BusTimes, they simply use the data that is in the public domain, hence why First doesn’t show up, as they haven’t ticked the box that releases the data. The companies have to ensure that all vehicles are listed on the vehicle database that the machines use, and as long as the information is known, then vehicles can be added in advance of their arrival. All the companies have to do is make sure that the fleet number on the machine matches the vehicle the machine is actually on - something that will be even more important when First start going over to Electronic Vehicle Defect Cards, as that data will need to be accurate.

Thanks. Then: 1.Who pays BusTimes? And there must be some contact between operator and BusTimes as the report layouts are operator dependant. 2.Recently, Connexions had several FirstLeeds vehicles on the 64 listed under their 'incomplete' fleet, due to the TMs being provided by FirstLeeds. Suggests that the vehicles are added automatically by BusTimes when data arrives - i'm sure they can also be added manually if required. These vehicles have since been removed. 3.Fleet No or Reg? Some don't use Fleet Nos.

Some don't use Fleet Nos. Don’t think anyone pays BusTimes. Its simply a ‘Front End’ website that converts a data stream to a useable format. In that data stream there will be data that isn’t usually used for Bus Stop displays (as not of interest to public), but that is likely to include Fleet Number (or Registration), Running Board, Driver Number, Trip Number etc - BusTimes then presumably converts that to produce a ‘Standardised’ data file, which the front end can then display, and perform queries on. Much the same as London/Reading/Lothian Vehicle Finder, Edinburgh Transport Visualisation. They use whats in the public domain, and display it in an Enthusiast friendly format.
