Posted earlier on another site a statement from DB about possible breakup and sale of Arriva, Interesting, though there doesn't seem to be any mention of breaking Arriva up.

I also can’t see any mention of them breaking up Arriva
People need to remember Arriva is a massive multi national transport operator, in many countries with turnover of billions a year. It isn’t a just UK bus operator, and any buyers are unlikely to be one of the other UK bus operators. It’s also not what First are doing in selling individual operators..

Surely they wouldn’t be allowed to takeover the rail parts of Arriva after they were banned from bidding for 3 rail franchises

And just how many bus operations would the Competition and Markets Authority require them to dispose of

Okay term it how you want but they’ve burnt their bridges in the rail world for the time being

baldman87. What is your reasoning behind your statement.

That doesn't look to be a serious news source. Incorrect comment about disqualification from bidding, and a couple of vague rumours. Perhaps Stagecoach may be interested in buying Arriva bus operations, but that's not what DB are offering.

I don’t think it would work in Greater Manchester or Liverpool, where Stagecoach and Arriva already have a huge market share. In fact, wasn’t Stagecoach in Merseyside born out of Arriva having to sell a depot in the past?

According to a driver from stagecoach they have offered a billion quid for the bus side of arriva Is that the UK bus side? The global bus side? Sounds unlikely. As that's not what DB are doing. They're offering the whole (or shares in the whole) for sale. It's possible that whoever buys it may then be interested in selling parts of it. This has been mentioned before - if anything else is proposed it needs a bit more behind it than a rumour from a driver. Do Stagecoach let their drivers know about these things before officially notifying the market? If they do, that's the way to a massive fine for them.

Baldman87. Please. Did he tell you this on the 1st April. Reasons not to pay a £1billion:- 1) Is Arriva bus worth that much?. 2) Certain referral to the Competition and Markets Authority and sale blocked on lack of competition grounds. 3) Several elected mayors including Mr Burham in Greater Manchester can't wait to start franchising bus routes and therefore tell the bus companies how to run buses and routes rather than leave it to the professionals and that is something several large operators are not to happy with. 4) Would Stagecoach seriously tell on driver of one of their buses what they intend to spend their money on.

Other bidders include Keolis which is interesting, apparently they operate Nottingham's NET Only in the sense they form one eighth in value of the operating consortium, the same as Wellglade.

Strange move from a position of Regional MD covering Yorkshire and the North East to a one depot, one town operation with about 163 buses.

Postscript to above. May not be as strange as it looks. If Arriva Yorkshire is to be sold then Go Ahead would probably be in strong position to purchase
