As part of the Grow project in Manchester, the top part of Portland Street has been closed for resurfacing, meaning the closure of bus stops at Piccadilly Gardens for four weeks. This means services are starting/terminating at Chorlton Street, Portland Street and Sackville Street. www.tfgm.com/Corporate/media_centre/Pages/News.aspx?articleId=863

How so many buses are using stand CU on Portland Street I can't imagine. It's like closing Leeds city bus station and expecting all services to use New York street instead!

How so many buses are using stand CU on Portland Street I can't imagine. It's like closing Leeds city bus station and expecting all services to use New York street instead! It has been mainly a case of pick up and go at stand CU with buses having to wait for time around Charlotte Street/Spring Gardens/York Street. Chorlton Street get congested with diverted traffic, coaches arriving at Chorlton Street coach station and buses queuing to pull into the stands. Similar story on Sackville Street. Sometimes with the congestions, TfGM staff have been telling drivers to leave the stands, even if it was before their scheduled departure time. Some people complained on Monday that they weren't aware of the disruption, even though TfGM had put notices up at bus stops, had warning messages on the approach to Manchester, notices on their website plus Facebook & Twitter pages and had adverts in local newspapers and radio from before Christmas.
