York Station and the National Railway Museum could be transformed as part of a multi-million pound development plan. The York Central scheme would include 120,000 sq m of new office space and 2,500 homes - with a development value of £623m, the city council said. The site includes the teardrop site at the rear of the station which has been granted enterprise zone status. The council has earmarked £10m towards the costs of delivering what it called the "King's Cross of the north". Chris Steward, the council's conservative leader, said the development plan represented a "once in a lifetime opportunity" to attract new jobs and homes www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-35036909

The largest Brown field site in the centre of any European City, YORK'S railway station will need a major upgrade to cope with a huge increase in passengers and the demands of new rail schemes, the city’s development blueprint has said. City of York Council’s draft Local Plan, outlining how York will be developed up to 2030, said York Station must increase its capacity and provide better facilities, as the number of people travelling to the city is predicted to rise by 41 per cent between 2009 and 2021. www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/10372814.Blueprint_proposes_major_upgrade_for_York_Station/The document said arrangements for buses near the station also need to be improved because current bus stops are among the city’s busiest and there is no suitable place for services travelling from the east to terminate and turn around for return journeys. I wonder with all the space if there will be an opportunity or the will to include a Bus Station within the plans
