There was a brief mention on Look North this morning of proposale from National Express East Coast and First (they mentioned Transpennine, but presumably they meant Hull Trains?) to run a direct service from Harrogate to London (as well as more direct NEEC services to Bradford/ Skipton) - has there been anything seriously mentioned about this? Or is is just wishful thinking?

There already is a direct Harrogate to London service, but this sounds like NXEC and others are trying to beat Grand Central to the punch, especially from Bradford as their Grand Union company is meant to be trying to sort something out on that front.

www.rail-reg.gov.uk/upload/pdf/s18-ecml-NEX_sum_280308.pdfDetails NXEC's plans to hire class 180's to provide extra capacity allowing York, Newcastle, Scotland and Leeds services to be sped up and Harrogate, Bradford and Skipton to gain extra trains making a two hourly service to each. The Skipton and Bradford's would combine to give Shipley an hourly service to/from London and the Harrogate's are said to travel via York and call at Knaresborough. (First direct link to Knaresborough for years or ever?)
