www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/business/business-news/manchester-airport-secures-hong-kong-6941957It's oldish news now, but Cathay Pacific are starting direct flights MAN-HKG from 8 December, and possibly also Beijing on the back of Chinese investment in Aiport City. Good news, but with all the heated debate about Heathrow expansion and CP themselves saying it "will boost Manchester’s standing as an International hub”, I wonder whether it's a one-off or we're heading towards a more balanced network of hub airports in the same way as Germany? It would fantastic to see flights to Australia, Japan, South Korea from the north but it's quicker to fly west from the east coast of the US to Hong Kong, so we're presumably a disadvantage geographically (Germany has a catchment area of Western Europe but with Manchester it looks to be mainly domestic UK & Ireland).
