2:42pm Thursday 14th November 2013 in NewsRegional airline Flybe, which has operations at Leeds-Bradford Airport, is to axe another 500 jobs in a cost-cutting drive that will also see it review unprofitable routes and bases. New chief executive Saad Hammad said that without the latest restructuring the Exeter-based carrier, which employs 2,700 people, cannot be viable. Mr Hammad, who joined the company in August from easyJet, said: “We need to cut costs and improve efficiency. Our original concept of regional connectivity was a sound one but we have executed that very badly in recent years. We want to execute it very well.”

Eastern Airways to take on Southampton - Leeds route Direct flights between Southampton and Leeds are to continue following an announcement by regional airline Eastern Airways.
The company intends to run three daily weekday services and a Sunday service from January.
Earlier this year Flybe said it would be withdrawing from the Southampton-Leeds-Bradford route.
Eastern Airways said the flights would provide access from the north to cruise ship departures from Southampton.
