Just wondering how TLC are getting on with the Huddersfield services. I know things are pretty early on, but every time i've passed a TLC solo, at anytime during the day, they've always looked to be barely loaded or empty, and that appears to be on every route they operate. I do hope they make a success of it, but i worry if long incumbents like Stotts or Tiger couldn't make these routes viable, then perhaps TLC aren't doing either. It's always a gamble operating niche/rural routes even with tender payments, but we can only report what we see with our own eyes, and so far it's a case of Hmmm! with TLC. As long as you have got your sums right (so you are reflecting your costs accurately, something not all operators manage all the time) then the only gamble in running tendered work is whether or not the council will withdraw them earlier than the end of the tender. The loadings on tendered work, as long as it was what was expected, is less of an issue to the operator but is an issue for the local authority who have to justify the funding of the service. Success or failure for an operator on work like this doesn't rely on passenger usage, though if TLC manage to achieve a noticeable increase then that would show a big win, but on getting the combined (cash, concessions & tender payments) income above the full costs of providing the work (both fixed & running costs). I don't think most of these routes have ever been busy routes, indicated by the fact that they are tendered services, so would not be expected to have a many if any passengers for many sections of many journeys. Thanks for your response dwarfer, I didn't really know exactly how tendered services work, so as always, im grateful that industry insiders such as yourself take the time to post in response to casual observers like myself. Having re-read my original post on the subject, i can see how my comments may be interpreted as being somewhat "negative". I can honestly state that wasn't my intention, i was merely posting observations i've seen with my own eyes. Having seen the article in Route One, TLC seem a progressive company of good repute,(unlike some operators who've recently plied their trade in Kirklees), and are a welcome addition to the streets of Huddersfield. To finish, i hope TLC prosper and expand and TLC drivers like whereami and others who contribute to this forum enjoy a settled future with this company.

We've won the 900, 901 & a new route 902 (Huddersfield - Hebden Bridge) and the 906 widdop, no idea when they start but new buses are going to be ordered for them and I think the Huddersfields may be split between Todmorden depot and Huddersfield depot.

Start in May, I've just had to go back to Hudds depot, cos, one of lads, hadn't got his keys on him to get into yard, and seen notice in cabin.

Is the 906 the summer Sat Sun and bank holiday service linking Widdop th Hardcastle Cragg via Hebden Bridge. If so I would have thought that an Optare would have been a bit of a squeeze at both ends. However alway nice to go to the Widdop end to take a photo of the vehicle and then use that as an excuse to visit The Pack Horse Inn on the road over the hills towards Colne.

I personally worked it with a slimline Optare Solo for First West Yorks for a number of years before we lost the contract to Tyrer bus. We used one of the Todmorden allocated solos 53821-53825. YES its tight in places especially Hardcastle Crags and the first mile of Widdop Road particularly when the sun shines!

Calderdale Community Transport ran it a couple of years ago using a colourful Solo, unsure what they used last year because after walking over from Haworth to the Widdop terminus intending to catch the second to last bus of the year, It didn't turn up! Had to walk to Slack partly in the dark along Widdop Road, can tell you for sure it's narrow in places, and dangerous to walk on. According to CCT, they couldn't use the Widdop terminus as it was a building site, yes this was the case but as there was no Metro or operator notice anywhere nearby, including on a notice board, I assumed the bus still would run but turn somewhere beyond Widdop, nowhere did anything say it was turning just past the Pack Horse!

TLC Huddersfield have taken delivery of one of two ADL mini E200's, which have been bought for the 900/901 Huddersfield - Hebden Bridge service that we take over from Sunday May 15th.
I've seen registration of the one already at the yard, but, no fleetnumber. When I know both registrations and fleetnumbers, I'll let you all know.
The other one, requires attention from Cummins, due to water in fuel.

The new 901 timetable remains a secret with neither the Metro or Yorkshire Travel ensure having any times for it for next week.

Don't forget, when Huddersfield depot started, we had 91241, 91242, 91243, & 91247, yes, the regs followed on EOR/EOS/EOT/EOU

TLC now want to extend more into commercial services aswell as their tendered services. The re-launch of the 653 is the first on the list starting at the end of the month with promotional material been posted on the buses. They will be then looking at further opportunities in the future.

Does anyone know why TLC have never shown details of their Huddersfield services on their website. All the other services are shown. Seems strange.
