They are been offered £9.51 an hour which is admittedly not bad! Therefore I don't understand what the problem is! They do say that the drivers face an increase in utility bills and fuel costs. Well so does everyone else!
How many other bus companies do you know of who offer that pay! First Leeds offer something on the lines of £7.33 an hour don't they.
Anyway, the news article suggests the ballots should of been in yesterday so I wonder what the outcome is?

I think £7.33 should I mean £7.66 pay rate may just be the starting rate then.

Can Coastliner be easily compared with, say, First Leeds, where one is local services and the other long-distance, 3+ hour trips?
Anyway, if the report is to be believed, the increase is of nearly 5%, not to be sniffed at and much better than what many, many other sectors offer.

Oh, I don't know whether anybody has noticed the date on the BBC article but it's the 8th February 2007! So looks like the strike never went ahead!

Pay rates in Leeds are as follows:-
C Rate - £7.66 B Rate - £8.66 A Rate - £9.66
Progression from C->B is after 2 years service. Progression from B->A is "dead mans shoes" ie when someone on A rate leaves, the most senior B rate driver gets the position. In total there should be 410 drivers on A rate, plus all the night drivers.
