If anybody actually reads the Daily Mail, I doubt the name of the bus company will be the thing people will take away from such a stupid story

I think it would be best to take this story with a large pinch of the old sodium chloride. Somehow I don't think the events may have panned out quite as the professional journalism suggests...

I don't think it's a case of Arriva Yorkshire wanting bad PR, it's not like they set out to victimise this couple. There are bound to be actions of company representatives (in this case, a driver) that make it into the media spotlight.
To be honest, from the reports I've heard on the radio, nothing bad is actually being said about Arriva Yorkshire. They're obviously doing what they can by investigating the matter which is all they can do at the moment. Either the driver has been doing what the couple say he has done or the couple are blowing whatever happened out of proportion.

As this is on my "patch" as it were, I should point out that the report of these two "goths" was in last Friday's edition of the "Dewsbury Reporter" and the "Daily Mail" piece looks to have been lifted (more or less) straight from our local newspaper.
The couple reside in Thornhill (that's Arriva's 128 or 281/283 routes for those of you not familiar with the locality).

The story has been on BBC Look North tonight. They had the couple in the studio to talk to them about the incident. Nothing bad was said about Arriva and they are fully investigating the incident.

They were also on GMTV this morning! There was the mention of the bus in the first sentence and then that was it... the interview was just dominated by the fact they were goths and she was chained up with a lead. No comment from Arriva Yorkshire, in fact no details about the incident were given.
The word 'bus' was used twice and that was it. John Stapleton asked the guy if it was safe to travel by bus with the lead on and then they just went on about how it's taken off.
Apparently they are 'just normal people' and want to be treated as such!
Makes you wonder why they're plastered all-over the newspapers and news programmes because the GMTV interview didn't touch upon the incident, more the fact she's a goth on a lead. But that's GMTV for you.
