Eurostar unveils £700m train deal The new trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 320km/h Eurostar has unveiled an order for new trains worth more than £700m. The Channel Tunnel rail firm, which runs high-speed services from London to Paris and Brussels, is buying 10 trains from German firm Siemens and overhauling its existing fleet. The new Eurostar e320 trains would be able to carry more than 900 passengers and their luggage, and reach speeds of 320km per hour (200mph), the firm said. The French are getting into a bit of a hissy fit over this as the trains are not being supplied by Alstom which SNCF usually buy for their own high speed network. The French government seems reluctant to change safety regulations so the new trains could run through the tunnel.

Obviously Eurostar have lost their diplomatic touch which saw the origional Eurostar sets constructed by a Anglo-French-Belgian cosortium.
