Over the last few weeks I have seen ,and been on buses with route branding which were NOT on branded route that they were caring, the most resent ones have been the 110 Volvo's on the following routes 481/ 117 /217 others that come to mind are the 1400 series 126 /127 VDLs on 202 /203 and the Wakefield based 400 series VDLS caring 498 branding on the 126/127 and while we are on the subject low floor Spectra's back on the 110.Is route branding worth the plastic it is written on??

You've opened the above on a well debated topic No you've missed the point, what would the Marketing teams spend their budget on without Route Branding, they would have to devise much more balanced Marketing Campaigns. That would require them going back to school to read up on what to do!!!!!

That would require them going back to school to read up on what to do!!!!! ;D 1) Provide upto date leaflets 2) Provide results on early/late running (Like TPX have done) 3) Actually get off their ar ses and go out and market their routes, not just say stick some vinyls on this one for such and such route. 4) Ask passengers what makes a good bus service The list goes on.

Route branding does attract more passengers. However Arriva interwork buses with other routes to save on fuel. For example Dewsbury's 278 early morning working is always in theory going to be a lowlander as after 7am it turns into the 202/203 for the rest of the day. Same with commanders branded for the 126/127 there will always be a commander on the 205 in the evening as it interworks at Dewsbury and turns into the 205. It makes sense to use buses that are already out in service instead of chopping and changing and bringing a bus from the depot. It saves on fuel and also makes thing's easier to manage. However through the day they should try and keep the buses branded for a paticular route on that route. However that isn't always practical. Basically its all about interworkings. The 103 route at Wakefield I think its the 10.30 working is mostly always a double decker which is pointless as alot of elderly people are going into town at that time and can't get upstairs and causes overcrowding downstairs I'm assuming that will turn into 443/444 or 117 as they usually have double deckers on throughout peak times.

Do you know what time the Lowlander is from Halifax in the morning? Sorry they don't go into Halifax, they just do a couple of early morning short workings between Dewsbury and Wakefield.

126/7 Route Branding is now applied to Pulsars 1451 and 1453.
1452 was in service today without any branding

1453 is also carring Route Branding for R126/7.
That makes 1450, 1451 & 1453 carrying Route branding for 126/7

Route branding can make non-regular bus users aware of a service even if it is running on the wrong route like an advertising space. Route branding also has the effect of ensuring that a bus is say 80% of the time dedicated to a route and therefore guarantees a certain level of quality of vehicle provided i.e. low floor, double deck, new etc. Easy identification is possible from a distance. The trouble with Arriva's branding is that it is often not big enough.

But the problem with Arriva is they never TRY to allocate the correct buses on the correct route!

But the problem with Arriva is they never TRY to allocate the correct buses on the correct route! Sorry disagree with your statement: They DO TRY Belle Isle: 110, rare to see anything other than a Darwen 126/7, most days 3 of the 4 New Pulsars appear 194/6 & 496, all the Commanders tend to appear but there is a need to supplement since the allocation is now greater than the 9 available Dewsbury: 126/7, Commanders rarely venture from the route. Some other workings are provided off these towards the end of the evening peak. Recently they have been one down following the re-painting 202/3, This is the only Decker route at Dewsbury and it is rare to see the Lowlanders appearing off route. Since there are no spares deckers so others have to supplement for Maintenance and MOT down time. Heckmondwike: 268, Rare to see anything other than a Enviro 400 on here now. There are two spares in the week and 4 on Saturday which do pop up on other routes. Give me one of these rather than a ALX300 any-day. 254/5, Any missing Eclipse tends to see one of the spare Enviro 400's appearing. The peak requirements for 254/5 are inter-worked with other routes hence foreigners will be seen at those times. 229, The Spectra's still provide the bulk on this, again it is inter-worked at peak times so others will appear then. Castleford: 163/6, Since the recent timetable changes the 10 branded Tempos appear here and the other 3 appear on the 156/9 however these 3 can appear in other locations at peak times since the 156/9 allocation reduces from 4 to 2 at those times. All the above based from actual observed workings, not what I thought I saw or any other bland statement. For example, last Wednesday in Dewsbury all the 268 workings were provided by Enviro 400's. all the 254 workings were covered by the Eclipses. Dewsbury 126/7 were provided by the available Commanders 1410 being unavailable it appeared in Interurban this week. The 202/3 was short of 3 Lowlanders, none appeared on other routes. Only 1 non-E200 appeared on 281/2/3. Only saw Belle Isle Pulsars on their 126/7 workings I classify that as TRYING, I also classify other things in that category as well.......

Belle Isle Commander 1400 has lost it's Connecting Hemsworth Branding to the Near-side of the bus.
It looks like the Near-side might have been repainted but the bus is still in Aquramarine and Sandstone livery
