As you all are aware, Arriva scrapped the X33 service back in spring. They blamed improved train services as a reason for its withdrawal.
However, it was scrapped becuase of the unreliability of it and the costs from that. The service was popular as you all well know.
Could this be the downfall of many routes, bad timetabling?

Yes I think it is, companies are either extremley ambitous with timetables that make buses run late or timetables that make buses run early. Length of routes is also to blame especially if they use busy roads in this case the M1. I take it this route wasn't tendered and if Arriva were still operating Arriva Trains Northern, it probably would have stayed, but you never know what's round the corner

Totally agree. I used this service on a number of occasions and it was never empty. The service was upgraded a couple of years ago to double decks (from the C.A.T.S. single deckers that now work at Selby) due to increasing passenger numbers. Arriva then reduced the service to one every 90 minutes and eventually scrapped it. I think it was a bad idea.
I would have terminated the service at Heckmondwike or Cleckheaton instead of Bradford, and run it to Meadowhall only instead of Sheffield rather than scrapping it altogether. Is there any chance of Arriva reviving the service? My guess is no - they are a company that seems to like scrapping services, rather than introducing new ones. In the Dewsbury area, services removed by arriva in the past few years are:
201 205 (Mirfield section) 206 207 208 209 210 211 214 215 217 218 223 224 225 (removed Leeds portion and now only every 2 hours) 226 228 250 251 252 257 258 259 279 X26 (a short lived hospital service) X33
There are probably a few others that I can't remember, but it's quite a long list, and the "improved" network that replaced these misses quite a number of areas that used to have a bus route.

I would have made it run from Sheffield to Leeds via White Rose, partially replacing the X32 and complementing services that operate between Leeds and Wakefield.

White Rose center would be an expansive diversion off the main route.

One of the PTEs or maybe both could provide a tender for this or simaler service(s).

They subsidise that Leeds-Sheffield fast train! So wouldn't bother starting up the service!

I said simaler services, so things like Sheffield to Huddersfield/Halifax, Doncaster to Leeds, etc. Because there are train services between Sheffield and Huddersfield. Also there are a few trains an hour between Leeds and Doncaster. Also Ben the PTEs are not made of money!

I wonder if bad timetable planning was downfall of the M62 Illingworth-Halifax-Elland-Brighouse-M62-Leeds/White Rose Centre.
As far as I remembered, the journeys outbound were pretty full.

I miss the X33, I use to catch it from outside the old Wakefield Bus Station through to Meadowhall in the school holidays, back when they used the Volvo B10B Wright Endeavours.
