The other day I got on a Plaxton President and I noticed it had a Voith Gearbox fitted and the performance on the bus was a lot faster than the ones without mostly uphill, have these gearboxes newly been fitted or have they always been like that since new?

I'm not sure Arriva would fit a replacement gearbox to any of these unless the existing one suffered a major failure.
If Arriva really wanted to improve vehicle perfromance I'm sure they would have started with the recently re-furbished DAF ALX300's. Those really do have a gearbox which wants sorting

I reported in the breakdown thread that a President had broken down a few weeks ago whilst on the 212. The bus had to be towed away, I can only assume that the bus in question is the same one with a new gearbox fleet 696.

The Presidents have always had Voith gearboxes. Most B7TLs Arriva have, have got Voith drive trains.

Well the ones I have been on in the past have just sounded like a normal First Gemini and really slow but the one I got on sounded similar to a Lowlander and was incredibly faster I think it had a Voith Retarder too.

hmmm. the presedents at selby seem very slow, especially on hills. in fact i was one one, the driver had foot to floor on a hill start and the bus bearly even moved. they also seem to be speed limited lower then most buses

Yes that's what I thought they were like but the one I got on accelerated really fast and could achieve creditable speeds.
