Just a quick question - how do I proceed from being a Newbie with just 1 star up the ranks to 2 stars or more? I have been a member for over a year, but have only recently started to participate

Just general posting, not spamming, about each different topic will mean your post count goes up, with this the stars and the status.
Hope that helps.

More posts = more stars. This however is slightly unfair as some members just continually post press releases about anything and everything, as well as posting unwanted or unreadable/confusing messages.
The best method in my opnion is by post quality, as the members who generally have the best ''inside'' information tedn to be very busy at their job in the industry, yet so only have little time to post, but have very useful and informative comments.

Exactly, we want quality not quantity. The reason behind two bands of members being newbie and forum member was to prevent people constantly posting to get more stars where they think they're more significant than other members. I would much prefer if people posted less, but the content was useful and of value.

I actually think that everyone posts quality these days, alright there maybe a few dubious posts but it is all viable information that someone may find useful. I cant see anyone that has posted drivel in the past few days.
Less posts? That'll just pull the forum backwards!

Less posts? That'll just pull the forum backwards! This isn't really true. Like people have said, it's the quality of posts that matters and not the quantity.

Thank you to the Forum Staff, Jack & Craig for the above responses and I'm pleased to have been promoted to 3 stars! Just like the AA classifications of hotels etc, it should now, quite correctly, take time and considerable effort to gain another star!

I'm sorry to inform you that 3 stars is the standard! New members have 1 star and after several posts will become a forum member with 3 stars, at which level you will remain. This is to avoid problems we have had in the past of increased unnecessary posting to increase stars/status.
