My favourite memories are of ECW bodied Olympians and VRT's appearing on Rider routes and i can also remember being on a Duple bus bodied Leyland Tiger leaving Temple Newsam and being bounced that high i nearly went through the roof. They don't make buses like that any more! Shame!

One of the buses in which I rode to school 1957 - 1963 - The eight coaches were delivered to Samuel Ledgard in 1948 as half cabs. Five of these Duple bodied Layland Tiger PS1s were required, on a daily basis, to take children to Potternewton Mansion School in Leeds - photograph and information from Keith A Jenkinson's 1981 book 'Ledgard Way'.

For me it would probably have to be Atlanteans and MCW Metrobuses.

definatly the atlantians and mcx metrobuses but the nationals also. The scania n113 striders that still run 2day are part of the memory of the old yorkshire riders. i can never remember the original olympians though. maybe they were never aquented to the 96 or 57 bus routes

I used to love using service 571 when they used Plaxton bodied Leopards on it. The hill between Southowram and Brighouse is ace!

I remerber going to school into Bradford on the 578 from Bolderclough ( an extenstion of the 576 ) usually on one of the ex gmpte fleetlines at Halifax they rattle quite a bit then stuck in traffic . Coming back I used to the 610 to Queensbury usually a Olympian or an Atlantean in the 6352-6361 batch. I hoped to get 5040 the bus in Bradford Corparation livery but only got is once in 3 years

That would have been 1986 onwards, as YR didn't start until 26/10/86.

Yes I remember the Microriders. I went on one of the first journeys in Leeds for the launch - YR 1700 - VW Optare Citypacer (Now preserved)! Got some freebie merchandise, I think I still have it somewhere in a box. If I can find it I'll put it on the scanner & post an image. I have an old photo of the black one, 1870 FR Sherpa. I think most of the minis were D, E or F reg's. FR Sherpas, MCW Metroriders, VW Optare Citypacer's & some Merc Optare Stariders - I remember Bradford putting one of those out on the X33! I saw the original batch of FR Sherpas in the works at Thornbury before they entered service.

Also known as bread vans. Don't remember it ever being free. When the 5Lane Ends Morrisons opened, 629 and 810-815 started and interworked there.

I think you could travel for free on the black one (1870) if it turned up on your route? Don't think it ran in service that much though as I think it was used mainly for publicity etc.

If i remember rightly, the early days saw the MicroRiders on the following routes:
810 Shipley - Thackley - Idle - Thorp Edge - 5 Lane Ends Morrisons 811 5 Lane Ends - Myers Lane - Bradford 812 5 Lane Ends - Bolton Road? - Bradford 814 Hirst Wood - Shipley - Wrose - 5 Lane Ends Morrisons
815 was added later and may have been the start of the Saltaire link

Not Yorkshire Rider but west yorkshire riding. the 226 Leeds - Not a clue? - Norwood - Halifax. Arrive ran it too, before eventually first company got it and it's now run 3 days a week, 2 times a day. A shame to cut of a Village.
Does anyone know where it went? And what other service it inetworked with? I know it was ran by striders!

My journeys to school were on the 15/16 routes of Leeds City Transport the buses were usually the MCW bodied Leyland PD3s or a FUB registered Roe Fleetline and on one occassion the 1966 33ft Fleetline thats now at Kieghley bus museum Later memories include the mournful whine of the AN68 Atlanteans labouring up Coal Hill Lane in Pudsey The picture is of two of my favourite LCT vehicles

I remember the 226 (and even more round the houses 227 in an evening). The first time I caught it was by accident - I just got on a bus that said "Halifax" on the front without realising it took an hour and three quarters. There used to be one 223, one 224 and one 226 an hour between Halifax, Cleckheaton and Leeds with the 223 and 224 being rather faster - the nearest service to all 3 now is the 255.
The 226 is a shadow of its former self with just 2 short daily runs between Halifax and Norwood Green (still an improvement on the previous 3 days a week).
I used to like catching a red bus for a change in Halifax - and later an Arriva.
Even further back there were peak express services on the X23 and X24 from Halifax (with 1 or 2 extending to Ripponden and possibly Rishworth - will have to find an old timetable) which were limited stop versions of the 223 and 224. At the time of the express from Ripponden it would have been gently competing against the half hourly 508 Leeds - Halifax - Sowerby Bridge - Ripponden - Rishworth in the mid to late 80s.
