Caught a bus today from Wakefield to the Total Fitness at Waterloo a double decker, rain coming through the window seals some water on the floor by the nearside two rows of seats.
On reversing out of the bus station juddering and moaning will we make it I thought. Loud squealing from the brakes, £3 as well.
Had a ride to Halifax a few months back on a First double decker that was nice.

All the Leyland Olympians tend to make that juddering sound when braking from reversing.
Water coming through window seals is also a common problem on older double deckers. You even get water seeping through on Royales which is the only downfall to them.

The reverse screeching noise is part and parcel of the overall Leyland Olympian experience!
There is one other main annoyance with the Royales... the constant rolling of ?ball bearings on the upper deck roof.

Royales are used quite a bit on the Storthes Hall service in Huddersfield. I often wondered what the ball bearings were as they seemed to run all round the roof. And as for water getting in it was often like having two mini rivers on the top deck on really wet days, one down ether side of the floor which then sloshed all over the place when ever a corner was taken. Could never put bags on the floor which was a bit hard for Art Students who often had multiple bags and boxes with them.
Its the only down side to such a decent bus.
