My Question is this, why doesn't Leeds have several park & ride centres like York does and if they did where would they be placed?
My 2nd question is if we did have these facilities what buses would either A) divert of route to call in or B) which NEW routes would Leeds have and would they continue off to a terminus or would the P&R be the terminus?
Basically looking at our park & ride facilities i think what a waste of time & money. I think that Leeds could do really well with some park & ride facilities. You could have one to the south either on deswbury road (A653) off the roundabout with Wide Lane or Wakefield road (A61) near wood Lane , one to the east on stile hill way on the left hand side, one to the north (Remove King Lane P&R) don't know where that can go, and one to the east.
Then you divert one service that is frequent off to these Sites, So Deswbury Road, 202/203, 220/221, 46 and others, where you can divert 110 off into the site on the A61 to the east the 18,166, 163,167,168 and probably others.

There was a report in the Evening Post a while back that mentioned Gildersome, just off the M62/M621 as a possible site. They said a dedicated fleet would be needed to run a fast and frequent service rather than using current services. I can't find a link anywhere at present unfortunately.

Well to correct you first of all Nick, York only has five Park & Ride sites; Askham Bar, Rawcliffe Bar, Monks Cross, Grimston Bar & Designer Outlet.
Leeds does have some Park & Ride sites in existence, you have the site at King Lane by Allerton High which is signposted from the A660 in Bramhope. New Pudsey Rail Station is basically a Park & Ride site, but you get the train instead.
There is also a rail based Park & Ride scheme in the pipeline on the M1 near Garforth with a new rail station built called East Leeds Parkway with parking facilities.
Park & Ride sites were also on the agenda with the Supertram scheme with sites at Whinmoor, Stourton, Tingley and Bodington Hall. I don't know what Park & Rides sites would get built with the Trolley Bus Scheme if it all goes ahead.
Really, thinking about Bus based Park & Ride schemes, they really only work in compact historic cities like York, Oxford, Cambridge, Chester & Durham (the last two not as successful as the first three places mentioned). Name me a large city that has an extensive bus Park & Ride scheme in operation?
The idea of Park & Ride sites where normal service routes deviate yes could be more possible in a place like Leeds with the provision of peak time extra services that do serve the Park & Ride to Leeds city centre sounds like a good idea. Edinburgh has the Ferrytoll site to the west of the city where normal service routes call at the site. Newcastle has the newish Park & Ride at the Metro Centre Coach Park with a peak time service for the site and you can use normal services at other times.

i think leeds has an extensive enough bus network for people to leave their cars at home or park them up at such places like the tescos and asdas of the city which have enough car parks, also where would they be placed? i cant think of any specific sites that would suit

But people don't use it enough the bus network as it runs to 'unreliable'. And if you look at people who travel to Leeds you have people who travel on the train (or into Leeds with cars) to Leeds from Wakefield,York,Harrogate(36 aswell), Huddersfield and usually connect onto local train services to somewhere else on a different route, or onto the buses,so having the park & ride is something that would be beneficial to Leeds. I mean the advertising could go something along the lines of 36 minutes on a train, 32 minutes in YOUR car and OUR bus or something along those lines again i am no advertising manager or anything. And with Leeds P&R you get make the routes alot simpler to fit in with this 'express' into town if you like. So instead of having the 46 divert into my idea of the Dewsbury Road P&R site, you have 'express' services 202,203 divert into there so they at MAX spend at least 20-25 minutes on the bus. Again on the A61 the 110 would be beneficial to these routes. Mind you why give it to arrive they would probably split one route up into about 50 different ones There is plenty of sites south of Leeds mainly on the A road's to Dewsbury, Wakefield as well as to the east, so having these there is basically having a little advantage with people coming to Leeds in there car from Selby, Wakefield and the surrounding area etc.

With the Supertram replacement options Metro are now considering, I believe they are still mostly interested in a park and ride site at Stourton (A61, A639 and M621 (previously M1) all converge here). Additionally the other potential Supertram park and ride sites at Lawnswood (A660 and Ring Road), Tingley (A650, A653, M62) and Grimes d**e (A64) should prove useful. Given that this would cover north, east and south, perhaps a west site should also be considered (?location) and a site somewhere along the A65 too just because of the heavy congestion on this road (and to tie in with the bus priority scheme).
At the moment the only official park and ride is at King Lane - I can quite understand why it is there as part of the guided busway scheme - but it isn't the best location and isn't very large (though having said that I haven't often seen it full).

. And if you look at people who travel to Leeds you have people who travel on the train exactly, the train is the greener quicker option for relatively the same price, 1hour+ on a bus or 20 on a train? it's like when i went to the galpharm (hudds) from crossgates i had the option of 2 buses or 2 trains, 2 buses £5 (metro day rover) & well over an hour or 2 trains 25minutes & what i think was £5.50ish return on the train. i know which id rather do, and those that go shopping in the city centre are more likely to use the train if you ask me
