Or the same price going one way.
I usually if i get a train and coming back via car or anyother means of transport get a Return ticket because the one way is just as expensive as return(£1.35 Return, £1.35 one way Leeds-Shipley last time i went).
Back onto the subject, Why dont they just keep the current service but put extra capacity on in the summer to mirror the service.
So for example a 1015 journey has two buses running together, but one of them is only to york. This one runs 10 minutes ahead of the 1015 and picks up the All York Bound passangers. That way the 1015 isnt as crowded with all the york bound passagers because they have took the 1005 and anyone who is actually bound for york and beyond can can swap at york onto the 1015.

What i don't get is why it can be 7 or 8 quid more from say Shipley or Guiseley than it is from Leeds. Probably to do with the cheap tickets being a First Transpennine special offer, but the other services are operated by Northern. Anyway, there's a simple solution - buy the Shipley/Guiseley/etc to Leeds ticket seperately! Nick's idea above is quite sensible, perhaps if (using your example) the 10.05 leaves Leeds all stops to York, and then 15 or 20 minutes later a Coast bound bus leaves, calling at major stops only, and arrives at York 5 or so minutes after the "slow" bus for any onward passengers to board. Thus the majority of passengers from Leeds to the coast will have a quicker journey. Still not ideal, and not as preferential as an increased Leeds to York frequency, but a cheaper option to consider.

Well at around 8am this morning, the top end of the Bus Station was swamped with people waiting for the 0815 Thorton Dale bound 840 and the later Bridlington bound X45. There must of been over a 100 people queing at Stand 25!

They do run duplicates but there is only a limited number of buses available. On paper the busy journeys could be loads from about a dozen I don't like the idea of using the yorkshirexpress branding, why dilute a strong brand like Coastliner to something that has been around 5 minutes?

Well yorkshirexpress branding seems more practical on the basis that this additional half hourly service will not be serving the Coast therefore the Coastliner brand does seem daft.

I have an even better idea, all journeys have to be booked in advanced even if you are travelling locally. This stops overcrowding problems although it will require people to plan and be organised more. Bookings could be done at set periods Monday to Sunday at coastliner offices and tourist information offices only, not online so it makes it fair for all.

Just imagine the uproar if they were to do that, all it would do is deter fare paying passengers from the service with the inconvenience of having to go to an outlet to book your journey. Another problem, not all places en route have tourist information centres or Coastliner offices. So places like Rillington and Sherburn where you do get local people using the bus to access services and shops in Scarborough. How do they go about booking journeys?

Fair point but on the other hand having a Yorkshire Coastliner and a Yorklshire Express brand may give the impression that the two services are separate, where as they would be part of one combined Leeds-York service

Why not use a bit of wordplay, as often found with bus branding, and go for "York's Coastliner" or "Transdev's York-Coastliner" or similar.

Well ok, Coastliner could ask VOSA to pump in extra vehicles and duplicate the busier journeys. They could use the Harrogate & District Javelins which hold about 60 seated passengers. Getting the drivers wouldn't be a problem as I believe there is a waiting list of drivers wanting a job at Coastliner so could have drivers in no time!
Then they could register the extra services between the two cities which should stop the capacity issues. What brand, I don't know!

The new drivers would have to have a coach license to drive the Javelines plus you wouldn't be able to brand them, because they are used on school journeys.

Yorkshirexpress is by far the best option. It should be made clear that tickets are interchangeable with Coastliner, but for a York to Leeds service is there any point in using Coastliner when the sea is still 40 or so miles away?

Yorkshire Coastliner is the name of the company, it's not compulsory that every journey has to be to the coast. People have been travelling from Leeds to York on Coastliner for many years They also used to run minibuses in and around Malton at one time, which also got nowhere near the coast

Hi
So dose anyone think that maybe First in Leeds and First in York could join together and launch there own Leeds to York Express service operating once hourly with Volvo Eclipses in the First Express Livery?
They could use Joint ticketing with First day and First Week tickets and so on. Plus they wouldn’t have to go via Seacroft & Tadcaster as they could just head non-stop down the A64.
This might be just the right time to take the opportunity to have a go at it against Transdev. But this idea would also mean First Yorkshire taking a big risk, as they would have to operate it on a commercial basis without funding from Metro or North Yorkshire County Council.

I don't think First or Arriva would have much chance of running a competing service between Leeds and York against Transdev. First of all because, neither could beat Transdev on terms of quality of service. Last of all, Transdev do no like other companies stepping on their toes and First could have too much at risk in York with Transdev having a base their so could be quite capable of attacking them on their core network.

A first combined ops will absolutely runion First.
1) They have a 15 Minute frequency on the TPE which only takes around half hour. 2) Who ever suggested that they could go direct on the A64 is stupid as that is the only way to York without going out of the way to come back on yourself. 3) First York and First Leeds operate very different fleets SO Leeds might deploy Royles while York a Volvo B7TL. 4) Transdev would win because they offer a far superior product then first would ever on the Leeds-York route.
As i said earlier a Mirror service running 15 or 20 minutes earlier going None Stop until Seacroft and only terminating at York while the passengers bound beyond York get on board the journey that goes further then the 15/20 minutes earlier service would clear all those ONLY bound pax for York and the people who want beyond York then join up with the 15/20 minutes running later service.

Never going to happen. In 1987 maybe but thesedays First hardly ever compete with other big companies or indeed introduce any new link

2) Who ever suggested that they could go direct on the A64 is stupid as that is the only way to York without going out of the way to come back on yourself. It was quite clear from the original post that the poster was referring to a non-stop A64 service not calling at Seacroft or Tadcaster etc. So can we please avoid rude personal remarks. First have already got the upper hand against Transdev - they run newish trains every 15 minutes between the two cities, with a journey of approx. 30 mins, or less if it avoids any station calls or signal waits.

Stephensons just do Malton-Hovingham. Hutchinsons do the Malton Town Service, Sherrif Hutton service plus the Hovingham-Helmsley part of the Malton-Helmsley service Coastliner used to do

Yesterday Bob is going on all the morning & probably afternoon ones with a clip board & marking off where everyone is going, so this should hopefully get them some more earned money.
