Ruth Kelly last week revealed that Leeds has placed a bid for TIF (Transport Innovation Funding). Inevitably, if we are successful in receiving TIF funding, the city will also get a congestion charge scheme.
I started the thread in here as I suppose the greatest impact of the scheme would affect buses in the city. Would Leeds City Council and Metro press for more regulation on buses plus what will First's, Arriva's and Transdev's reaction to the scheme be? Will we see them all pumping new buses into the area as can similarly be seen on the wrong side of the Pennines in Manchester.

So would you use the buses instead to avoid what you percieve as another tax on the motorist.

No I wouldn't. I spend alot of time travelling to work in town from home. Then to Castleford and Sherburn alot.
Which areas will the congestion charge be applied to?

I would assume at the moment, it would be around the City Centre extending out to places like Sheepscar, Universities, Armley Gyratory, LUFC and South Accomodation Road areas.
Well, I think the plan isn't widely known in the media yet. I only found out about the proposal through an Engineering Magazine which doesn't elaborate on plans.

It's a stupid idea, people use them areas to get from a to b in a car, as far as im aware, leeds city council said no to this a few year back. the city cente is too small to apply a congestion charge anyway.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here.
From what I can establish the TIF grant annoucement does not indicate there will be a congestion charge, and if things do go that way, it won't be for a long time yet. It's easy to get carried away summising what might happen and how much it will cost, but how about taking this grant in a positive light; that there will finally be a large investment in the region's public transport.
