What are these Leeds special fares?
Does this mean Arriva actually do compete in the area with First by undercutting their fares?!

219 & 229 from Gildersome to Leeds charge this. Maybe its to do with the First 63 along the same route as 254/5 along Whitehall Road.

To be honest, I can't see the 63 been much of a threat to the 254/255 along Whitehall Road into Leeds on the grounds of frequency.
I suppose the main point of the cheaper fares of that compared to First in Leeds is to attract passengers along Dewsbury Road and East Leeds where the more profitable corridors are.

You got a fair point there Jack. 63 only runs every hour whereas 254 and 255 are every 10 mins between them!!!! Forgot about Dewsbury Road First 2,3,12,13,13 group and Arriva 202/3, 220/1.

Oh, an answer on the Leeds special fares. This maybe because Leeds City Council pay Arriva to offer these cheaper fares so people are tempted to catch the bus into Leeds to shop rather than an other town centre.
I know Leeds City Council are quite stringent when it comes to out of town shopping centres hence why the White Rose Centre isn't exactly as big as Meadowhall. You would of thought that Leeds doesn't have much competition within the county when it comes to shopping.
Then again, I can't say if the cheaper fares undermine First Leeds fare structure as I don't know how many stages you can travel with each fare.
