Which I'm sure will be granted. This seems quite a positive outcome.

This has been posted on another forum ibb.co/HDjXfMGFeel like that is quite a generic response and won't be reflective of their actions. A lot of enthusiasts have pointed out that the company is known for attacking wages and asset stripping. American company too doesn't fill me with hope...

Basically the whole industry is in decline except in one or two places.
Simply be stripped back, property sold and the operating companies sold on if possible.
Locally it is another nail in Selby for sure !

To survive in any shape it needs to be separated into what can perform well and what can’t. In fairness what arriva has been doing for years …shedding parts but the profitable bits have been dragged down in the complete mismanagement of the process. I think personally it’s just gone too far down the decline road and now isn’t big enough to invest and reinvent. With big boy neighbours, splitting some bits off will be tricky so expect to see those medium size groups ;( like diamond rotala ) looking very carefully at what is available. Unfortunately there will be a culture change for employees if they come knocking !

The good news is the new owners are talking about investing upto £1 Billion into the company in a mix of both fleet & depot upgrades, the downside being they've not yet stated how much of that will be for the UK (I Doubt it would be a large chunk) as they will be 'bidding' against the various European ops.
I Think for the moment the likes of Selby depot & most other places in the North should be OK, as the main loss maker at the moment is Kent & that's before the loss of the Fastrack routes so I would expect that will be the first area they look at.

Says much for their dysfunction if they cannot make a profit in Kent, when they operate buses in the most populated part of Kent! To be fair it's not that simple as going off the population. The likes of Tunbridge Wells or Maidstone is never going to be decent bus territory with the high car usage & fairly decent train services in the area

I have used Arriva buses in the South, Wales and Midlands and it is so hard to get accurate bus times. No wonder they make losses!

True but the Medway Towns have a high level of deprivation and a high population. If a bus operator can't make money there? It isn't even as though Arriva have got any competition there. A handful of minor services from a couple of small independents, trains along one corridor only, and that's it – they have the rest of Medway to themselves.

It could be the Medways area does make money, but not enough to cover up the losses from the rest of Kent.
