Reliably informed that 704 (YG52CFA) was taken away this morning by PVS Carlton.
This brings to an end the 23 years of Spectra Operation at Arriva Yorkshire. The 6** series Spectras at Belle Isle were some of the last Step Entrance buses to enter service in the UK. Never been a big fan of the Low Floor version, much preferred the 'Step' ones as a driver.

Personally preferred the step entry ones, they sounded a lot more beasty. Think that was the last step entry type I rode aswell in 2014. Also the last time I was in the drivers' cab was in 723 whilst on display at White Rose Centre for Halloween 2019. That's one type which I am sure will be hugely missed!

What was the story behind Arriva's purchase of the Step Spectras, as T Reg and V Regs, was 1999, when most companies was getting low floor buses? Did Arriva get them cheap? Or was they meant for someone else, but cancelled, and Arriva snapped them up? Just seems strange as Arriva got the Presidents and ALX400s brand new a year after, then the LF Spectras in 2002. Loved the step entrance spectras, fantastic buses.

If i recall correctly, i think it was something like a delay in supply of low floor chassis, but step entrance variants could be supplied quicker or something.

Thats the exact same story I got from our engineering manager at the time. Because everything/everyone was going low floor at the time the lead time for new low floor buses was extensive. The 'Steps' were available virtually straight away and at a heavily discounted price because no-one wanted them anymore. Penfold

Penfold Guessing also the 110 needed to be converted to all double deckers as well, as single decker striders, was proving not to be enough for the 110 as well, so getting step entrance spectras, was the quickest way to do so.

Unrelated but It’s probably the same time period 1999/2000 operators snatched up the last step entrances. E.g. Coastliner taking the last W Reg Volvo Olympians / Alexander Royales.
I always thought the earlier Spectra’s T and V Reg spectra’s were low floor like the 02/52 Reg. Until I got on one when they were mainly on the 202/203 and realised this wasn’t the case.
