I have been told today that Arriva are in talks with Centrebus aka Huddersfield bus Company to run there Castleford/Pontefract operations. I can't go into any more information but IF it happens you heard it here first.

This does seem a strange idea in my opinion. I don't understand why they would sell this Depot as it is part of the core West Yorkshire network.
Selby would seem more reasonable due it been out on a limb with current Yorkshire operations and probably may not deliver the profit margins for a large PLC, it would be perfect for Centrebus Holdings as it is a relatively medium sized operation.
But as you said, this is just "talks" on a possible deal. Just out of curiosity, how did you hear of this, from a supervisor or just chitter chatter from drivers?

As you say it does seem strange and yes Castleford is part of the core network BUT Castleford is loosing money hand over fist, hence service cuts and also Selby taking over Alandale in Garforth and also could be running into Kippax from August/September.
Yes they could sell Selby but this depot is actually making a nice profit for Arriva even though it is small compared to the others.
I won't/can't say were I got this information but it is not just "chitter chatter". This takeover may never happen if Castleford can get its act together and show Arriva its worth keeping as an Arriva Yorkshire depot.
The takeover would allow Huddersfield Bus Company of which Arriva own 40% to reduce costs i.e. wages which would make Castleford more profitable.

Well still seems odd that Nigel has been only here a few minutes and is considering on selling chunks of the company off.
It won't be Castleford Depot management that is to blame for it making a loss, they could improve depot efficiency but fares and timetables will all be determined by Belle Isle. So if the place aint earning its keep, it's only Arriva fault who have dug them selves into a hole.

Well only time will tell on this, but I agree with you it does seem strange and I said that when I was told. Just have to monitor the situation.

This is a very interesting development, if this happens could Centrebus also buy up M Travel or one of the other smaller operators that run in/around Pontefract/Castleford like they did with K-Line in Huddersfield?

Well if that was to happen, the difference would be that M Travel is a competitor to Arriva whilst K Line wasn't a competitor to Stagecoach Huddersfield.
