Yellow Buses, the former Bournemouth Transport which has been run at various times by Transdev and RATP, has gone into administration.
The administrators have said they are in advanced discussions with a large national operator regarding a takeover.
This would seem to be the kind of operator previously taken over by Go Ahead but as they are the competitors from all sides I don't know if they would be allowed to take over here. Stagecoach would also seem a likely bidder.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the next week or two.

For the sake of integrated transport Go-Ahead would be good. Mind you, there is integrated ticketing between YB and Go South Coast in the area which should remain in place.
Given that First run in Weymouth including a route to Poole, plus in Southampton, YB would be a good fit into First Hants & Dorset.

If it does fail, that must be one of the biggest collapses of a bus company we've had in this country – the only other one of a remotely comparable size that I can think of is Western Greyhound, but they were still quite a bit smaller and had had problems with fire/arson that undoubtedly contributed to it. Fingers crossed that they can find a buyer and save the company.

Western Greyhound is the biggest recent collapse but the shock with Yellow Buses is much higher as this is a long-standing and historic urban operator of good high-volume routes whereas Western Greyhound was a expanding new independent running rural routes who had had a number of recent unlucky major incidents which destabilised the company (& had just been sold to new owners who were already seen as being a bit 'iffy' in terms of how they ran their businesses) and they had contracted quite a bit by the time they went down.

National Express have bought the coach sector and engineering team. The bus sector has had no outright buyer so some routes will be covered by More Bus with the bus division having seizured operation at 6pm tonight.

I think Yellow Buses is the first privatised bus company to collapse since National Welsh in 1992.

National Express have bought the coach part of Yellow Buses, not to be confused with Yellow Coaches, which has been sold to Xelabus - this includes the school bus contracts.
