Recently, I have thought to myself to wonder if First Halifax & Huddersfield does not care about their customers.
Information on the First Bus website has not been upgraded on the Halifax, Calder Valley and Huddersfield page for a while now. For example, the network maps still display services: 520, 545 and 560, the two commercial routes First gave up in 2017 as well as the contracted 560 which was changed to be numbered 586. Services missing from the network map are: 586, 587 and 591. Some people may believe that network maps aren't important, however they are from a customers point of view. A few weeks ago, I hopped on service 587 to Rochdale and people asked, does this bus go to....? A lack of info from first.
Secondly, there has been a lack of investment over the recent years for new vehicles. Last double decker purchased first hand for Huddersfield: 17 years ago, 54 plate Geminis Last Single Decker to be bought first hand for Huddersfield: 6 years ago, 64 plate Streetlites Last double decker purchased first hand for Halifax: 16 years ago, 06 plate Geminis Last single decker purchased first hand for Halifax: 6 years ago, 15 plate Streetlites
Anyone have reasons, for and against my arguement?

I've no reason to believe First West Yorkshire care about their publicity.

I don't hate First like I hate Arriva but they don't half wind me up sometimes.

The 06 plate Geminis at Halifax were new to Leeds & Bradford, The last new decker at Halifax was the 05 reg 32532(32537-32542) although meant from new for Halifax did enter service with Eastern Counties at Norwich before arriving there. The only thing that annoys me a bit about the Halifax operation is the that the 503 & 576 does not get many E400s on them even through some have been modified to improve their performance.

The lack of new vehicles for Huddersfield/Halifax is not a unique thing to just these areas - just see the likes of Potteries/Midlands as well (whilst they got more newer vehicles during the 2015-17 period than Hudds/Fax they received little during the 00s/early 10's when First was mainly renewing the W Yorks fleets),Add in the fact until a few years ago First was not in the best place financially plus needing to upgrade the fleets in other areas for various emission zones or partnerships (see Glasgow/East Lothian/Leeds/Bristol/Sheffield/Southampton/Cornwall) it did mean some parts of First got forgotten/kept 'ticking over',although investing in them areas has allowed newer vehicles to come to Hudds & Halifax. The fact both the 2 depots only have a few routes that will earn decent profits (328,503,576,X63 & possibly the Holme Valleys) won't help the overhaul profitability either. Over the maps issue,i'm a little surprised West Yorkshire has not copied South Yorkshires approach & just used the PTEs map on their site although there could be new maps in the pipeline for when the HD/HX connect brands are completed? As for how important maps are,First will be the only ones with this info as they will know how many website clicks on average they get. If the maps are getting say less than 20 views per day they probably see it as low priority for the marketing team compared to keeping the recruitment drive going.

It seems like first only cares about a very select amount of areas. I think they need a right good kick up the ###. More effort has been put into improving buses as a whole thankfully, lets hope something comes of that in the future.

They are now being replaced with the Eminox system used on buses like B9s and SY E400s which has no adverse affect on performance.

32520-24-28-41-42 on YSB as 32529-38 are Euro 5 compliant.
These deckers from Bradford have replaced the 1100fe Yellows not the Enviros that were sent to Huddersfield.

Definitely for your argument! I've noticed that they've been rebranding pretty much every area, this is definitely a welcome improvement, even if the liveries are recycled. However... the new brands haven't actually improved upon anything. Doesn't that completely defeat the point of a rebrand? There's quite literally no improvements to the interior or new features added to the buses. I can't see what they are attempting to do by slapping on a bit of paint on the buses, I mean surely they don't think this will actually attract customers? I can say for certain that when other companies launch a new brand and or reinvent themselves. They've almost always got something to show for themselves ranging from improved seats to USB ports. First? Nothing. It really frustrates me to see them be lazy. Despite from their flaws, they're easily the most reliable company in our area. They also run the most popular routes and even they receive sloppy branding and or no branding. Example... X63? This route is basically packed from start to finish. First created a brand for this route, which looks decent from the outside but again there's the issue of interiors. Sure, they've got leather seats but a route this busy and long deserves more. If this route was in the hands of any other company it would be unrecognizable. Arriva or Transdev? You could sure bet it would come with a fancy renovation, or even new buses, and every modern feature that you could possibly cram into a bus. Every other company seems to think our region is worth the investment. I don't think there's any excuse for their laziness. Especially since bus travel is going to become significantly more important within the coming years. It's a good way to tackle climate change, traffic, and help our aging population get around. Many have been voicing concerns to First for a while, over email, and they get generic corporate responses. Really hoping they get their act together soon, they could be an amazing company First did this with Wigan in 2012 as well. There was barely any investment in the buses for the past 10 years before Stagecoach took over. When Stagecoach was introduced they welcomed new and refurbished buses.

It appears that the network maps have been updated, however a slight hiccup is for some reason the 571 has been converted from grey to blue line, would have made more sense to colour the 681/2, the 587 is displayed as 597 and it shows that the 686 goes down Halifax Road rather than the 688. I hope this is fixed for the July changes as well as the introduction of services 509, 511 and 513 to the bus map.

Alot of old vehicles being withdrawn in Halifax & Huddersfield so some of the points on here are invalid now Not really. There is not any investment put into Halifax or Huddersfield there hasn't been a new bus in Huddersfield or Halifax for nearly 10 years now and there hasn't been any new double deckers for nearly 20 years. Also the 55, 06 and 56 Euro 3s B7s will be remaining. Also just because they withdrawn old vehicles now doesn't mean the cycle won't happen again. In 2016, Halifax was still kicking about with Leyland Olympians and Alexander Royales which were in breach of the DDA compliance laws.

I rarely respond to highly critical posts unless I feel they are unjustified. I have lived in Calderdale for nearly 70 years (Elland and then Halifax) - you cannot just say these town centres are 'poor'. This is an emotive word and could well upset the business owners and residents who live here. Imagine you have just leased some new premises in The Piece Hall and have just read your assessment of the town centre! Maybe you should try and sit out at one of the cafes / bars on a sunny day and look towards the fantastic architecture of the building and look upwards to the impressive backdrop of Beacon Hill. This is not 'poor' - indeed I would say it was rather special. Anyway enough ..........this forum is about people interested in public transport but you do not need to upset a quarter of million residents!

Still, their company their decision. The areas that have LEZ/CAZ will push them to invest like they have. If I was a business owner, why would I spend money investing in areas when the buses are running fine? Other than replacing for old age?
