Shame to hear that 1608 has been withdrawn. It’s a shame the remaining ones can’t receive a bit of TLC including a repaint and one in particular 1611 to have its seats recovered well the remaining ones that need doing

Confirmation that 1608 has now been withdrawn from service and is to be used for spares. The engine was obviously not repaired and after seeing the state of the chassis it would require major welding work and expense. Penfold Thanks for the update! On a more positive note, I see 1607 is tracking again after an absence of a few weeks. Yep it is currently sat at Leeds awaiting to do the 200

A further update to 1608.
It has now been decided after a closer inspection that 1608 was not as bad and not going to cost as much to repair as first thought. Engine works have been completed, welding carried out and panels have now been replaced. It will be back on the road in the next week or so. The 'U' turn was partially due to a major shortage of vehicles after quite a few require maintainance, accident repairs or are going through the refurbishment program

Looking forward to seeing it back. When I get time I’ll do a list of them all to see what’s what…. ie Not sure which one are elsewhere and which are scrapped.

Unless its ticket machine has been swapped to possibly to one of the Solos?

Does anyone have any information regarding 1604 or 1606? 1604 was (Tues 16th) parked at the back of BI with a yellow NFS sticker in the windscreen. Not usually a good sign. Penfold

Talking of lifespan, the VDL 59 plate Pulsars appear very shafted and must be due for withdrawl soon, maybe in the next couple of years. Saw one tonight really struggle with a light load going up York Road before the Irish Centre which isn't that steep, I don't recon it came out of first gear going by the speed it was struggling to do, and noise lol.

they 59 reg Pulsars and the 57 reg Commanders are rubbish on hills 1450-1453 are excellent buses. I travel on them all the time, excellent buses. Perform well brilliantly on my route. Love them. The commanders though 1409,1411-1415, sound terrible, and really slow. These IMO should be the next ones to be withdrawn, getting old now, and 1412 never been the same bus since it's accident. 1409 and 1413 are the slowest ones from my travels. give over, 1450-1453 are rubbish on hills, a mobility scooter has more power than them

There's a lot more worse than the buses than that. To say someone said 1450-1453 should be withdrawn is an utterly ridiculous statement. 1450-1453 in a totally different league to buses like tempos and commanders. Tempos are utterly crap and commanders are awful. Lowlanders are garbage as well. Can't wait for them to go to the knackers yard, only suitable place for them imo. Now now, don’t come onto this thread dissing the Lowlanders!! There’s a few of us here who like them 😊

I've got a funny feeling the 59 plate Pulsar batch have a different gearbox set up, which does them no favors to be honest, they feel similar to a very tired Lowlander or Spectra, it's like as if someone has messed about fitting some pointless eco setting that only makes them slower.

A curious haphazard mix of threadbare old-style seat cushions along with the current dark blue chequered style on the 1023 427 from Bradford this morning (Lowlander).

I thought it was the 62 plates that have the eco setting thing. The 59 pulsars go like a rocket going into Wakefield and leaving Wakefield, really quick, they seem to be a lot better than tempos, which are slow and drivers try to drive like Lewis Hamilton on them, with opening the doors way before it stops. Those tempos was a huge mistake to order, can't believe some donkey ordered them for Arriva, a huge mistake, never should have been bought. IIRC the 59 plates also have econospeed fitted to them but each bus (type) has different setting depending on engine/gearbox etc. Penfold
