Wasn’t sure where to put this so admins please move accordingly. Is it now company policy at First bus to reverse off stands in LBS without the aid of Hazard lights? I’m sure they used to do even when I worked for them and all the other companies still do but I never see a First bus using them now.

I think the discretion is down to the owner of the bus station, in this case Metro, who put posters on procedure for leaving stands. I know at Wakefield the posters say something like 'engage hazards, check mirrors and reverse, do not allow the bus to roll'

I know at Wakefield the posters say something like 'engage hazards, check mirrors and reverse, do not allow the bus to roll' All Metro Bus stations (except Pontefract, Brighouse & Halifax) and Wakefield all have signs on every stand that's drive in/reverse out stating to select Reverse Gear, Don't free roll, Engage Hazard lights, cover brakes and check mirrors, reverse in the stands lane whilst and to cross stands and join the flow of traffic when safe to do so.

Doesn’t say anything at Bradford Interchange as far as I know about hazards. Must drivers just put them on anyway.
It does say, ‘Give Way to reversing vehicles though’, and I think in some small print on that sign say ‘Except National Express’.

For quite a few years now, even on the open road, drivers of large vehicles largely see the hazard lights as an extra means of warning, for what is an out of the normal proceedure, so, I might be a bit thick here, why remove the need in a Bus Station, which let's face it, with regularly moving vehicles crossing each other, throw a couple of unofficial pedestrians in the mix, and hey presto disaster. At the end of the day, a reversing 30+foot vehicle reversing IS a hazard. Question for Dom. I left Yorkshire in 96, but if that notice is correct about National Express, are they some sort of superior specimen that exempts them? Surely it should be one rule for everybody? After all me and Dom and thousands of others have the same licence and DQC that NE drivers have, but choose not to do that type of work.

I think the exception refers to not giving way to them - as they're at the first stands, buses waiting for them block the entrance to the bus station.

Thanks for that Deerfold, I think the last time I drove a bus in the Interchange was when I worked at Transperience, and yes it has altered quite a lot since then. It just seemed to be an unusual situation, but now you have pointed that out, it explains a bit. Accidents will still happen, I mean at Huddersfield back in the day there was a banksman with a whistle, and even then you had buses reverse in to each other quite regularly at one point!!!

When I’ve been at White Rose Centre bus station I think the Arriva buses reversing have hazards activated compared to the first buses.
Also Arriva buses will have a different reverse warning HGV sound to the standard reverse beep HGV that First buses have.
