I hope all these changes were worth it and the ‘customers’ who wanted a quicker service to Hecky-Leeds (which they had with the 209 & X29!!) 😩 are enjoying it cos the 229s I keep seeing throughout the day are running pretty empty now they’ve cut Batley out. I assume the 251 etc aren’t fairing much better.

I can confirm that is true cos my usual passengers I see on my 229 are no longer using this as they usually board between Healey and Birstall to get to their destination. Loads of passengers not liking having to get the 283 to then change at Birstall. The people that wanted a "faster" service are those who live on the old 229 route so the result was to divert the bus in the complete opp direction to Birstall. Every bus ive seen has arrived at Birstall 10 mins early cos nobody boards between hecky and there. So arriva have completely missed the trick and messed up. Should have left the 229 as it was but maybe then run 20 mins instead of 15 or have the old time of half hourly with one "fast journey" an hour. Or even 1 x 229 hourly and one fast one.

What was wrong with one of the other threads, including the one you started?
If it was me, I would bring back a 209 that runs between half hourly Heckmondwike and Batley via the old 229 route and then hourly to Leeds via the old 209 route.
Service 201 would run Leeds to Batley only

Or perhaps have a 219 that does new 229 route every 30 and left old 229 as it was? But then they would all need to do full Hudds-Leeds to give Bradley/Roberttown the fast service into Leeds.
However, the trend now seems to be to have a few high frequency core routes and less variations.
I remember years ago there were umpteen Yorkshire Buses (predecessor of Arriva) services between Huddersfield and Leeds, all serving different bits of Batley and Spen Valley area, however no single route had a bus at high frequency (i.e. 15 min or more frequent)

Heard that the x25 is now always late and running with 50% less passengers and I've heard too the same thing about the 229.
Not good.
You do wonder whether some of these changes were merely a cost cutting exercise.

No costs have been cut the PVR is the same Costs have been, well, saved according to the Arriva expert I harangued on Saturday. Not running some services into Batley bus station saves six minutes and therefore cuts costs. He wasn’t bothered that people wanting, say, Batley Park from Healey would have to get the 201 to Batley bus station, then walk uphill to Commercial Street for the 283. I sampled the 201 yesterday. Not many on it and we had a five minute rest in Batley and then seven minutes in Morley following a circuit of the town. If that’s the best Arriva can do I won’t be in it again.

How about if service 281 was changed to skip out Howden Clough and run from Birstall to Leeds via the old 209 route, obviously with WYCA funding. Would that solve the problems?
The lack of a PM X25 is quite ridiculous though as surely there is no point having a bus in only one direction. I’m guessing they don’t have a spare resource at that time as the 254/255 now runs every 15 minutes right through the afternoon peak.

It used to be every 10 minutes at peak if I remember rightly but maybe that changed, it is ridiculous and probably a mistake that they missed out Hunsworth on the return journey.
