I thought it would be curious to discuss some ideas on improving bus travel in Leeds and what you would change. As the city grows faster than any other in the UK, it seems LCC are unable to cope with the new challenges it faces. Some of my ideas from travelling around Leeds city centre are:
- Creating a modern transport hub (almost an extension of the bus station) for cross-city routes on Dyer St. (including altering the junction at the bottom to allow a right turn) and the same on York Street. Putting in large bus shelters and improving the overall look of either street. Think of Bradford Hall Ings or Liverpool 1 as a design style.
- Building a second (but smaller) Bus station on the vacant hole in the ground next to the train station, opposite the Majestyk. Creating a more formal transport interchange with inside facilities, compared to the current various scattered stops around the station and on infirmary street. Routes 444, 446, 7's, 40 and 64 could terminate here. This would leave Infirmary street for alighting buses and cross city buses, IE 11, 1 ect...
- Putting in a bus lane along the whole length of Wellington Street heading out of Leeds as this area is a complete nightmare at evening rush hour, and tearing up the stupidly expensive and under-used cycle lane in the process.
- Create a better stopping place for buses waiting time in Headingley as this often causes problems when 4 buses are trying to use the same stop opposite the Arndale Centre when running early.
Interesting to hear your thoughts.
