842 Used to be 840’s Leeds - Thornton le Dale shorter journeys . This was from when I was a kid in the 90s to 2003 onwards. (842 had no Sunday service) as all journeys were 840 Leeds to Whitby runs.
There was an older 844 from old memory, not sure if this was a Leeds - Bridlington route.
I do know of a more recent 844 was used as a Leeds - York - Heworth Green short, created by Transdev In competition with the Leeds to York Express X64 from first. Didn’t last long between 2009 - 2011 period. Fillers in for the 840/843/845, Giving an every 15 min service Leeds to York for transdev on top of the 30 min service ran by firsts X64.

842 was used for buses terminating at Thornton-le-Dale until some point in 2005 or 2006, when they were renumbered as 840. 842 was then recycled for a shuttle service between Malton and Castle Howard, for the 2007 and 2008 summer seasons.
844 was used for buses running between Leeds and variously York, Heslington and Heworth from April 2009 to April 2014. It had also been used historically, but I don't have any details of when.
