Interested to read about this new extra long 13.2m Wright bodied bus - 15 of which are about to enter service with this new successful offshoot of Lothian Buses next week. It looks like a bespoke model to their particular requirements. More info please.

That is an interesting bus. Is this type of bus going to be Tri Axle. Like Stagecoach's Omnilinks. If so this bus could be a Tri Axle Volvo B8RLE/ Wright, as they do make this bus chassis with a Tri Axle chassis.

It's only a twin axle vehicle. I'm presuming it's a B8RLE underneath.

Volvo B8RLE with Wright Eclipse 3 body. Not particularly bespoke to Lothian, this length available to anyone. Lothian are just the first operator to spec this length for now.

I can't say I don't like the look of this one, except for the front overhang. Seating capacity is poor at 40, despite the length of the vehicle being 13.2m!

Partially due to them being fully coach seated. Assume they will be used for the longer services i.e. 124 to North Berwick, or for the 'X' routes.

Now that I think about it, it makes sense Lothian reckon that in their standard city bus spec they could get 49-seats in, you suspect a less enlightened operator may be able to get another row in but vehicle weight may start to become an issue at that point as it is on 2-axles.

So I assume if First or anyone else still bought heavy weight full sized Wrightbuses again, which nobody seems to do, they'd now look like this with the Streetdeck style front.

Wrights had always stated that they intended to restyle the single-decker to the new house style to match the double-decker, it is expected that the Streetlite will also receive the new front in due course as well. From reading the comments at the launch it would appear that Lothian wanted to adopt the new front early. I have heard of at least one other operator with Wright single-deckers on order (I think they are also Volvos) that it is indicated may be delivered with the new style front but I'm not sure when they will be delivered.

Thanks for all the info on these new Scottish long Volvos. I can see the design now is the same front end as the Streetdecks / Gemini 3. An interesting thought is that 55 years ago Halifax Corporation took delivery of 16 Leyland Leopards with Weymann bodies (31-8; 231-8) and in their 30 foot length seated 41 passengers.... 1 more than the new singles mentioned above in their 43 feet length! Well, they do say as a nation we are becoming larger!

I would not like to be the the next passenger or two after all the seats are taken to be forced to stand for a long journey from Berwickshire(the old Scottish county) towards Edinburgh unless the new vehicles are for yet undisclosed new routes. Last week I travelled into and out of Edinburgh on a decker and the views throughtout the journey and well worth the fare( my over 65 glee club card is not valid in Scotland)
